Because the location you chose was closer to you than the actual Crossfire servers.

Also, I'd just assume that Crossfire is beginning to consume more memory as they continue to add new things to the game. There's not much you can do about that though.

Then it's your ISP. Ping is the amount of time your ISP can receive and send to Crossfire Servers. You could contact your Internet service provider and discuss it with them, but chances are they won't or can't do anything about it.

When people say that font changes FPS, they are likely thinking of this post.
