Does anyone play Poker?
Texas Hold 'Em specifically.
Ive been playing alot with my mates as of recent and really really getting into it. I played it before but it's recent that ive taken a larger interest in it... since I actually win money out of it now.
Has anyone got any advanced tips?

Get a royal flush and win  -
Ya, I've played poker a lot.
Often newbies will play too many hands.
You SHOULD be playing about 10% of your hands.
Also, remember that the upper body is not the only place where people reveal their position (or tell).
If you can't appear to find any obvious tells on someone, look at their clothing. If you see their shirt moving ever so slightly, and sometimes not moving, you can guess it's because they're tapping their foot, a sign of excitement, or there's just an AC vent blowing behind them.
In addition, one of the most common newbie attempts is to attempt to look exasperated as if they have a bad hand. If you see anyone that shows emotion rather obviously/passionately, you can probably guess they're faking it, unless you're playing with professionals. -

so annoying.
trick i learnt from a girl i played with once, when the cards are dealt, let out a "yey" occasionally, and judge peoples reactions. they look disappointed = poop hand, they look happy = they got a good hand, reckon they can rinse you, they dont change expression = they died.
it's all about figuring out the other peoples strategy too, as im sure you're aware...some like our friend above like to go all in and hope for the best. Others sit it out for 75% of the hands, go in when they have something//make you all think they have something since they just raised on the flop etc.
the other tip: beer always helps.
always.
learn the hands, learn the stats, learn to spot, learn percentages, and if all else fails, count

I prefer brick wall. It's very effective, especially when you're playing in school with cards as chips.
I'll pretend I need to go to a teacher, so I'll go all in on an assuming fold (like, 7,8,4) and blow my money. They will be like "more moneyz for me" and then it turns out I had a straight flush ^_^. -

Yeah ive pretty much worked out my mates tells. They try too hard to keep a straight face but dont bother with their eye movements. One of them I can tell right off the bat when hes trying to bluff.[MOD]NattNatt wrote: »so annoying.

That can give you away immediately when they notice you staring at them for a reaction.
In my case.. vodka = Ive wonI use to play with real money on pokerstars or fulltilt before they banned online gambling here in the US
put in 50 bucks, ended up cashing out 150 right before they banned it.
Haha nice!

a vpip of 10 is pretty low. For a tournaments you want it around 14-16, cash games 10-12 will do.
To OP, you should be more specific if you want real good advice, do you play online, live, cash game or tournament. -

I physically play with other people.
Money depends... usually its just chips. -
by cash games vs tournament I mean two different kinds of poker.
the stuff you see on TV and the World Series of Poker are all tournaments, ie one person trying to get all the chips and when you lose all of them you are eliminated
When you just sit down with money and play it is called cash game or ring game. -

I see. Then Tournament. -
you may find reading message boards helpful too.
The biggest is two plus two dot com, a lot of the worlds best players post there.
I am a long time member of pocketfives dot com which is good too, the article database rather than forum.

One thing I HAVE TO STRESS before you get to far into poker.
Read an article, or many, on Bankroll Management and variance (in poker terms). -
Yea I play. I prefer face-to-face poker, but alas, gotta content myself with this idiotic zynga poker on FB.
Also, I play for pennies and dimes.
Haven't played for big yet. I'm scared -.-
just dont buy zp for a month or so and use the money you save to play. Then if you lose it at least you have the comfort of knowing you probably wouldnt of got anything from the crates you coulda bought anyway xD -
Dumb game based on luck.
Boring as hell.
What I do is just maintain a emotionless pokerface the whole game regardless of my card set.
Tips would include getting everyone else drunk.
Also, bring a hot girl friend and tell her to position herself somewhere where the rest of the guys will look. Also tell her to wear those sexy business clothes with those short pants and tell her to cross her legs. Preferably long legs, fit, brunette and large breasted.
Edit: Tell her not to open her mouth because british chicks tend to have really bad teeth. -

I get good cards, I play.
I get bad cards, I bluff.
Am I lucky because I pull off the bluff? Are they lucky because they fold?
Or is it rational decisions based on experience and skill, rather than random? -

Obviously those are rational decisions but the whole game is still based on probability. You can do some math in your head to see your probability of winning but unless there is several people there is going to be a huge probability for loss.
There is no "experience" or "skill" in this game. Its all luck and calculated guessing.
Look up definition of experience for more information.
