You're clearly misinterpreting me getting another Macbook Pro for University [I got my first back in early 2010, but technology has exponentially moved forward in the last 2 and a half years] with me getting another Macbook Pro for gaming.

I have a gaming laptop from 2008 that still runs the only game I still play [unfortunately, a smaller amount of time], Cross Fire, at 200 FPS constant.

For the waste of money comment, buying a laptop is a waste of money. Laptops [and all technology for that matter] is designed to wear out and break down. I'm buying a piece of technology that has been proven to last longer than regular PCs, so price isn't exactly a big factor.

    Price isn't a big factor?

You can get a laptop that is atleast 2x or 3x better at half the price. In 2 and a half years, you are planning to spend over $4,000 on Mac's, when you have spent like how much? $750 tops on that laptop that you bought 4 years ago and it still works?

Nah thank you, I rather save some money on better machines.

    Definitely not at that price.

Just bought one macbook air 1000 EUR. +100 EUR for Word, Excel etc.
  • Well still depends what kind of hdd you use ;)

and no they didn't solve the fact it dies after a certain ammount of use.

    But still mac is overpriced.

check this and now try to put this on a pc. :)

Whilst I do think Macs have their use, I'd never opt for any sort of upgrades Apple offer. It's just ridiculously over-priced and anyone with a little computer knowledge will be able to upgrade RAM, HDD/SSD or the GPU. Especially on a Mac pro.
  • Really? $280 for Microsoft Office. - -
    For PC its like $125

Apple is expensive!! Our country as well.
  • what a waste of money

who gives a **** about a fancy display
  • perhaps you should spend that three thousand dollars on a personal trainer rather than an unproductive waste of money.

unproductive compared to working out or compared to a windows-based laptop?

one is a horrible comparison (drinking tea is more productive than driving a car!), the other one is probably faulty but hard to prove.

if one has the money to spend, getting a very hyped laptop is fine.
no worse than buying a car out of the factory.

obviously, if you're looking for performance or moneys worth, there are options.

The one thing I hate is a blind consumer mentality, something which a lot of Apple fans have. Brand loyalty is what made Apple a thriving business. People, in general, really should consider their options instead of jumping onto the Apple bandwagon. I'm no Apple hater by any means. I have an iPhone and a Macbook and am looking forward to buying a new one. It's just blissful ignorance which really gets on my nerves.
  • Well, branding and experience is why you buy a bottle of Coca Cola instead of the supermarkets own brand.
    It works.

Personally, what has me most biased against Apple is the die-hard Apple fanboys.
They want some deeper meaning in the brand, and think they find it, but its just good marketing.
So I avoid it, to avoid people thinking I'm one of those people, when in reality I just want a shiny laptop with extra bling.

Brand loyalty for something like Coca-Cola is a little different since it's such an everyday purchase. But when you're buying high-end consumer electronics, it's always good to shop around and consider your options before taking the plunge.
Apple's marketing is excellent, but I feel they're starting show weakness nowadays.
  • I'm not sure you can get anything better than a new MacBook Pro if you're looking for a solid well-designed laptop with smooth interior.
Of course you can always get something with better performance, but thats not really what Apple is about (although they will always claim to be the best at everything).

I feel that Apple is going downwards, but I'm afraid that it might just be me, and that in reality they're still doing great.

I have the same feeling too. Competitors like Google and Samsung are actually catching up, mainly in the smart phone market though. I remember when the first iPhone came out, Apple were way way way ahead of their competition, but things have changed.
In the notebook market though I feel Apple have a stronger holding.
  • All I'm saying is if you got 2700$ to spend on a computer, that is fancy and good looking go for the blade by razer. I have nothing agains't apple itself I've always used their product at some point depending on who I work for. But by experience I let you know that another laptop for the sameprice is way better and If you don't take my advice well it's up to you but you're just missing on something that is really great.

The razer blade has been called the innovation of the years in laptops.
  • Unless you want iOS or just an Apple product, in which case Macbook Pro is the superior choice..

Ios can be instaled or emulated on any pc computer, and is it worth to pay a 1250$ laptop + 1500$ for ios since it's the only worth thing on such laptop ? Actually you don't argue with a 12-15 years old kid. I'm a grown man and I have the experience to let you know that no matter what you say about a mac book it's wrong it just doesn't apply to the technology price of the moment and they never won any prize for such reason. CES gave 2 prize to the razer blade laptop. CES is not any little technology show, it's the biggest one in the world, where you can see all the future technology that change in that year, so just trust me for 2700$ you would rather spend it on the razer blade than on a white empty box macbook pro.
  • Yes, if you want an Apple laptop then its worth the money.

I really don't care what you think you have experience in.
Fact is, a lot of people buy Macbook Pro.
Whether or not its worth its price in terms of hardware, is irrelevant to those who buy it.
They want a Macbook Pro, not the best performing machine.

    And I'm not 12.

God these rabid anti-Apple goons are just as annoying as the Apple fanboys..
  • Am I the only one who thinks that they are way overpriced and their specs for that price could be so much better?

For example here's an amazing notebook with almost the same specs of that macbook for half the price:

    http://pt.asus.com/Notebooks/Multimedia_Entertainment/N56VM/#specifications

    Costs $1299.

And macbooks IMO are incredibly ugly.

It sure does. It's small and easy to use. Apple has it's advantages wich targets alot to school related stuff and many extra features wich are a common problem in daylife. That's why i've took the smallest macbook air.

    They sure are.
Apple spends the money on design and experience, and skimp out on hardware.
So people who buy it want a nice looking laptop, they probably don't care about the hardware.
(if they did, they wouldn't be buying an overpriced Macbook)
They managed to get the weight and height down a lot though, so kudos on that.

Actually skimp out on hardware might be a stretch. Its a solid laptop.
Point was that the hardware doesn't justify the pricetag, but Apple feel that its design and logo does.

Just wanna point out, there are ultrabooks with better specs that cost cheaper and are lighter

Also, macbook pro with retina display guess what happens if the display is cracked or battery dies xD

    Here is a tip: http://www.latinospost.com/articles/1277/20120614/macbook-pro-2012-apples-retina-display-laptops.htm
  • Obviously.

As I've said fifteen times, its not the specs that make people buy Apple.
  • Mac laptop is a good thing, but they should've stopped at that point. The mac computer is, as everybody is mentioning, a waste of money. Mac on stand-by can go (with full 100%) 30 days without being charged, but when you are using it normally (so without watching movies or such) the battery goes pretty fast from full to empty. Strange.

Fact is most people are idiot, reason why USA debt is over the cap, 1trillion$ just for education? , Also public opinion is the worst thing ever made by media, if you buy something just because a mass of people buy it and not because it's actually worth it you must be an idiot, I'm not going to buy a dirty orange just because there's "Tropicana" on top. Responsible costumers are actually intelligent people that end up making more money and have more time for themselves because they did the good choice at the good time, and what I'm trying to do is to prevent Hi to waste his money on a laptop that is not worth his money.
  • Oh wow this has quickly turned into an Apple vs. PC argument...
  • Yum i like big macs, i'm getting one later today.

if his money is earmarked for an apple laptop that he wants then its certainly worth the money

the prerogative of ethical egoism is being able to make selfish (i'll buy it because its makes me feel good, not to stimulate the economy) decisions for your own reasons, without worrying about some fictive consequences made up by someone with lots of lots of somewhat ambiguous 'experience'.

and because of us, industries like Apple and Coca Cola prevails and flourishes.
doesn't make us idiots, i resent that.

also yeah, SURPRISE on the mac. vs 'pc' debate. :>
  • is this even real life? whatever, never liked mac-os it's like an artsy version of windows. I think once you go linux you never really care to go back.

Placing an order for the 2.6 GHz as soon as possible. It's beautiful.

    Anybody else getting one?

Not worth it. You can't play CF on it. :)

Is your point saying because you like crap and people let you know there's something better and that you should seriously think about getting that something else, that you should blindly follow the need of getting the most badly rated mac in its whole history ? When people let you know there's a laptop for the same price that is the best rated and even got prize in CES 2012 ? Seriously ? If that's not stupid that's just something out of this world.

Trying to improve the life quality of a follow mate is something that prevail the need of getting branded that's it that's all. If you keep telling people that computer's worth it then sorry bro but you're wrong.

I would like to say the same with my iphone4 but seriously, no my iphone is ok it's work good and have a decent life time, but for the retina display it's not the same thing it's just differant it's not worth the brand name on it.
