Are you playing on laptop or desktop. If you play on laptop, you need a cooler cause your laptop will get hot and it will slow the processing speed. So I normally get about 30-60 FPS, when its hot, I get about 20 FPS.
A LapTop And OK I will purchase one. -
There are plenty:
- Turn off all other processes that are not nessessary
- Free up space on your computer
- Defrag your disks
- Upgrade your hardware. Graphics card, ram or otherwise.
- Run crossfire in the lowest settings
- Run crossfire in the lowest resolution you can support. (Most probably is 800x600)

What the hell does internet have to do with anything? -
ya THIS is a link for gamebooster. I use that every day, whether i'm on a game or not, simply because it helps speed up my computer. It closes any applications that you configure it to close, in-turn clearing up space for your computer to run programs.
I used to get 200 fps, but now i'm using an older computer and only get 40, but without gamebooster my fps sometimes drops to around 20, while with gamebooster it stays between 35-50 with occasional spikes up to 100 -
Before you buy a cooler, try playing CrossFire for like 20 minutes, then feel if its hot. If it is hot, move to a different location and your FPS should go up by a minimum of 10 FPS. If you do lag from over heating, you must buy a cooler. Over heating make even make your laptop shutdown, it has happen to me like 4 times.

Just tested C0lder's method and it gave me a minimum of 5 FPS to 20! Wow, but I don't like classic.
Yeah, it turns off everything that is pretty much unneccesary, even though preferable things are turned off, such as the pretty UI, but it really helps. -

Okay bro, i feel your pain and i will tell you what i did to increase my FPS.
1.- I installed windows XP.
2.- Control panel/system/Advanced/Performance/Adjust for best performance.
3.- Disable all unnecessary processes: Go to run.. type: msconfig. services. uncheck the following:
Alerter service, Clipbook service, Computer Browser, Distributed Link Tracking, Client Distributed Transaction Coordinator, DNS Client, Fax Service, Indexing Service, Internet Connection Sharing ,IPSEC Policy Agent, Messenger service, Netlogon service, Network DDE, NT LM Security Support Provider, Performance Logs and Alerts, Plug and Play, QoS RSVP, Remote Registry, Service Routing and Remote Access, Runas service, Security Accounts Manager, Smart Card, Smart Card Helper, Server service, Spooler, TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper, Telephony Service, Telnet, workstation.
4.- run.. msconfig, startup, unnable all the programs that you dont use for the startup.
5.- Download and install Gboost (its better than gamebooster IMO)
6.- right click crossfire, properties, compatibilty, run it in whatever version says "service pack", Check disable visual themes and Turn off advanced text services for this program.
7.- give high priority to from the taks manager whenever you start crossfire.
8.- Deactivate your Antivirus when you run crossfire (Don't forget to activate it when you finish playing).
9.- Change the font for crossfire i use lucida sans regular type. Go to my computer/C: or whatever disk you used when u saved crossfire/Program files/z8games/rez/fonts/replace it and rename it as default. -

Game booster may help. It takes care of all your settings for gaming performance.
If you can get Ccleaner from cnet.com that may help before you instal.
fps = frames per second .internet connection speed has very little effect on fps. Any graphics card will help. But it is hard to find and install an after market graphics card in a lap top.
Also if you are using a wireless connection, try plugging in with a direct cable.
