Please throw that piece of crap out the window, or consider upgrading it with about $100.
Your computer doesn't have much RAM at all, so you can expect processing to be very slow. What xtrap is doing is connecting to a server, and receiving patch information to make sure you're at the latest patch, it's having trouble accessing the server with the patch information, so it proceeds to go slowly, as you described.
Consider purchasing RAM, at least 4GB of it, which is about $50 CAD, it can be easily installed into your computer.
My other suggestion (though I highly recommend my first one) is to delete your xtrap folder in the following directory: C:/Program Files/Z8Games/Crossfire/xtrap. It should restart, and automatically patch (hopefully quickly for you). If that doesn't work, you can also try deleting the hgwc folder in your Crossfire folder.
