I can assure you the numbers are correct.

The only thing we've done is add an extra day (24 hours) to the event in light of a few server outages and hot-fix patches from the weekend.

Makes sense, I'm pretty sure anyone who was taking the event seriously and didn't see the extension is rushing for as many kills as possible to get the ribbon.
