Can I add a period in my name?

I have seen underscores but how do I do those characters

I need to make a period for mine.

Please enter 3-12 alphanumeric characters. A maximum of 3 '_' (underscore character) is also allowed except the first or last character.

Looks like periods aren't acceptable.
