A common solution for this problem seems to be just uninstalling, then reinstalling Crossfire. Try it out, and let me know how it works out.

How to uninstall

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
Click "Crossfire EN" and uninstall.

Try this.
When you uninstall make sure your all your cf files are gone before reinstalling.

If you have Windows SP1/SP3, try running combatability mode for Windows SP2.

How to run in SP2

Right click desktop shortcut
Go to Properties
Go to compatability
Select "Windows XP SP2"
