Game just crashes before starting without message.

Hi, i just installed the game. When i try to launch the game i click the icon, i click start, i see the patching window and when that disapears nothing else happens. on the task manager it shows that cf disapears right after the patching window disapears. No error message or anything.

I have already tried firewall settings, compatibility modes, reinstalling the game and opening ports.

Im on a windows 7. Intel I5 6gb ram HD radeon 6450.

  • Oh my lord. I found someone with the same problem as me! Yeah I've had this problem since March 25th bro and they still haven't fixed it..
  • Same problem here. I am on the East Coast Server. I have been playing on and off for about 6 months, had many problems but not like this.
    Fix this problem.
  • Never heard of this before, but I can give a few ideas for you:

    - Run Crossfire as an Administrator
    - Open Crossfire through G4_box.exe
    - Run cf_patcher.exe

    Tell me what the outcome is please!
  • It still crashes at the patcher window, no matter whether opened through self updater, cf-patcher, or g4_box files. Still does not open whether ran using the "run as administrator" option. Getting kind of ridiculous.

    i tried all taht too and it did not work. its been almost half a year since i played crossfire.
  • Cadance, are you on the East Coast Server in the U.S.?
    Trying to find some kind of similarities in situation.

    yes, im on east coast
  • man, the 1 thing that kept me playing crossfire instead of AVA and combat arms back when i could was its simple gameplay mechanics.
  • I wonder if the problem just exists on the East Coast.
    I used the First Mirror download.
    However I also live on a college campus, but the port is not blocked, so that wouldn't explain it crashing.
  • After some intensive use of programs to freeze the CF Patcher window as it was crashing I was able to rip out a string of text from it's out-port feed. Here it is, this is what is supposed to go straight into the log file for errors but it doesn't for some reason......

    Failed to RecCreateDirectoryFile : Path [\\localhost\C$\Program Files (x86)\Z8Games\CrossFire\version.ini]

    Apparently someone doesn't know how to spell either..... lolz.

    There are really no circumstances in which any program I have would interfere with the game Launcher starting. I don't use a anti-virus as most of them just cause problems, there is the standard Windows Firewall but I usually have that disabled, either way the ports are already on the exceptions list.
    Personally, I suspect a coding error.
  • Only one problem with that, what is the latest version # ?
    [VERSION]
    LatestVersion = 1090
    MinimalVersion= 1077
    OwnVersion = 5 <- Patcher V5
  • Looks to be the same. Here is my entire file.

    .... I don't see any difference and changing the number only results in an error saying I must install the latest version. So it isn't that. For the record this is a clean install as well so nothing is changed from what was downloaded from the Mirror on the site.

    All I can pull out of the out-port, which should have gone in the logs file but does not for some reason.

  • Is the file/directory read-only? Is your IP blocked? You did mention you were on a college campus. Did you try running windows in safe mode?
  • The version file is checked Read-Only, the CrossFire Folder is checked Read-Only (Only applies to files in folder).
    My IP is not blocked, I would know, and the ports are not blocked as I had them added to the campus system back in November and I checked yesterday and they are still in the system.
    I haven't tried Safe Mode. <- might as well give it a go.
  • Gets past Patcher but then says that XTrap is not working properly due to an external program....... in safe mode.... that just blew my mind.
  • Make the folder and the file writable. It should not be read only. It writes to that file every time you start cf.
  • You probably have iobit maleware, just turn it off (Right click when its in the tray)

    If you don't then you have another anti-virus that is blocking it, just turn them off.
  • They are both writeable and I do have iobit but the only time I ever use it is for a scan, then I disable it, I don't use any other kind of anti-virus.
  • Wait......I got it. Not sure what it was that I unistalled, since I already uninstalled all video recorders and anti-virus software twice already. After my next two exams in like 10 minutes I'll go back through and restore each program to figure out which one was conflicting with the Client.

    Appreciate your help guys. :) Thanks.
