Anti-Virus for MAC OS X?

Hi,
I bought a new 27" iMac but actualy I don't know much about it. People say that Macintosh is better to develop edition skills, using programs like photoshop and everything but is this really true or it's just a stereotype, like saying that a Ferrari has a better speed than a Nissan when actualy the Nissan is faster then the Ferrari? I've created a post asking for good programs to install on the iMac but it didn't get any feedback ! :s
Anyways, I've been wondering: Do I need to get an Anti-Virus? If yes, which one do you recomend me?

Thank you, bump.

    Stereotype nothing more nothing less.
You could have bought the same type of PC running windows for less money.
Or a stronger pc for the same money than you would had more power to render/edit etc

When you buy a Mac you buy it for it's name not for what's in it. <--- that is how mostly goes that is the same with artist the can get more done with a stronger pc but the rather go for a Mac because it's so popular with Artist because it "just does what it needs to do" aka bull****

    Macs don't need anti-virus programs

Not true, any OS can get viruses it's just OSX isn't that really popular with "hackers"
But anyway in the past months OSX has been infected by numerous viruses
*Check any tech site if you don't believe me

I agree with you in everything. I guess I bought it for its design. Don't call me spoiled when you spend hundreds on this game.

dont watch **** all day and youll be fine
  • Mac's are overpriced pieces of crap.

The whole "They are better for this program over PC" is a load of rubbish... you can use photoshop on PC as well as you can on a Mac...

Also didnt a virus just recently go around Mac's?
  • Mac's dont really need an anti-virus programs since most viruses are directed for PC's instead of macs.

Mac's monitor are more sleek, but the price you pay is for that apple logo in the back of it ^^. While getting a PC would be cheaper and you can run more programs on it.

Mac's and PC's could both run photoshop etc adobe after effects. But most professionals in hollywood use, Final Cut Express (where you can download many plugins/addons for the program) Pretty advanced eh, while PC's cannot.

Intego VirusBarrier is the best for mac. Though yeh refer to what I said in the beginning
  • Thank you for the information Praze ! ^^

Sony Vegas is way better in video editing /options/effects/plugins really just everything for any real hardcore advanced video editing program or even basic hobbyist till youtube series maker and such

It's the the stereotype "ya it's better on mac" that gets people to work on a mac and than there only choice to edit is Final cut pro since all other editing programs suck for it or lack support

But anyway, Hollywood movie makers etc don't and never will use Final cute pro.
For real that is a joke.

Hollywood movie makers mostly use AVID(http://www.avid.com)
    That is the real deal

    P.s Anti-virus thing

"Apple is 10 years behind Microsoft in terms of security"
that's a resent quote from Kaspersky founder and CEO Eugene Kaspersky who's job is basically all about software security

So ya, your better of using a anti-virus for your OSX than getting your info stolen.
