Introducing [Mod] matches

  • Would you like to know a more reliable way?

you'll kick yourself that you didn't think of it first. xD

    create a 16 slot room.......this next bit is important.....Invite at least 9 like-minded friends......enjoy your game.

Do you really believe that only people that come to this forum will know the password?

Do you really believe that everybody READING this forum is honourable?

Why do you think having [MOD] in the room name will result in a room with the majority honourable players?

So if i'm in room with you and i get 8 headshots 0 deaths, your gonna kick me because i must be a hacker right?

How about, killing invisible ghosts at the other side of the map with you watching me but due to ping differences I see the ghost move especially if it's just a little flash, you don't see it......I must be a hacker right?

That is what the other guy said. However, I don't have 9 friends that are always on, or that want to come sit in the same room, ectectect.

As for the password, let me try restating it: I don't give a flying **** if everyone in the world knows it. If I wanted to keep people out, I'd never have chosen a password that is part of the room name! Much less posted it on the forums! However, having to enter those three characters into a text box WILL clue you in to the fact that this isn't just another pub match. That is the point of the password.

No, not everyone is honorable, I've seen plently of examples of that. However, you keep forgetting the key point. [mod] matches aren't about total honesty. (If you want that, go scrim with your same, boring 9 friends. See how long it keeps you satisfied...) Mod matches are about MORE honesty than public matches.

There is no guarantee that players will behave differently, but for some reason that I can't figure out, I'm inclined to trust humanity a little.

With the hacker thing, you're putting words in my mouth. I never said a high KDR was grounds for a kick. Nor did I say a single cross map ghost shot is grounds. I've done both of those many times. Hell, I kill ghosts half a map away because they slash their weapons. But, you can tell I'm not hacking because I don't hit them immediately.

For example, chammers run straight up to ghosts and knife them right between the eyes. A legit player, even though he or she knifes the ghost, will pause and PP or "knife spray" around to find the ghost first. That kind of thing is very noticeable to any watching teammate. Sure, you might get lucky, but if you're constantly running up to ghosts and accurately stabbing them without pause, yes, I (and the GMs) would say you DO hack.

The point I was making is that most hackers are quite obvious. How do you think GMs ban them by replays (do NOT argue that GM's don't look at replays. They do.)

If you and your 9 friends want to have perfect matches, go right ahead. If (when) you get bored, feel free to join a [mod] match.
  • So you agree that there will be no real difference between a normal room and a [MOD] room other than, you have high hopes for the honesty of the players in a [MOD] room?

    kinda pointless....no?

Wouldn't it make more sense to try getting honesty back into all games instead of just some rooms?

Maybe your not old enough to have lost your faith in humanity? :P

I don't play with the same people all the time either.

I don't think it will work but good luck trying. xD
  • K ill try this idea out and make a few mod matches.
  • Next time I get on, this is the first thing I'm gonna do. Love the idea.

Trying to force honesty into every part game, especially a F2P, is like (pardon the adapted Family guy quote) "trying to avoid sex with Kobe Bryant. You can kick and scream all you want, but it won't change anything." There will always be one more noob/hacker -.- We can only hope to keep them (mostly) out of our rooms.

The only difference between a public room and a friend room is that you have even higher hopes for a friend's honesty.... In short, no one can truly be trusted, so playing cf is... "kinda pointless....no?" Everyone could hack for all we know....

Yet here we are ;) I figure as long as we're going to play this untrustworthy game, we can try to make it a wee bit more trustworthy. Mod matches work (or they should) by concentrating as many "trustworthy" players in a room as possible - thus allowing untrustworthies to be successfully kicked. Exactly what you do with your friends, only with total strangers instead.

Can it flop? Definitely. Will it? That remains to be seen.

But really, what's the worst that can happen? Worst case scenario is that a mod match is taken over by "untrustworthys" and turned into a public match. In that case, what have you lost? Nothing. The best case is fun, fair, honest game play. There's nothing to lose, and everything to gain. So let's give it a shot, hmm?

Thanks guys. It may take some patience before you get anyone joining, but spread this thread among your friends (and your friend's friends) and pretty soon, you'll get a lot of sign-ups. :D
  • Can we have one today ? Cause non-forumers don't know the pass and basicly typing pass and joining room its accepting rules.
  • There were specific matches called PUGs or Pickup Groups, making 5v5 randoms SnD, and prior to its shutdown there were Ghost Mode matches as I recall, played with WOGL or their own rules. The idea is to prevent any overpowered weapons (like m12, scarL and so on), also prevented any ZP character to make sure that all players are treated equally, I think prevented also loud weapons and any melee besides axe, I only wish if it will be brought back.

First of all this idea is great and nice going, however, what I think is people will probably abuse this idea if random players gonna host the room; so I think that only some people should be making the room with a random pass, and anyone who wants to play could pm the host for a pass, or you can make a post on forums perhaps.
