pretty good if you want it for just a boot drive.
Said when and IF they came down in price I would get one. Not paying full price for one. What happened to SSD are not worth it?
:P

Sorry to gatecrash your post with a question about hard drives while you were on the subject. But after the the new build I have(which you gave good advice for) I've no idea about hard drives and performance.
When I run a windows performance test (the one were it rates hardware up to 7.9 max).all of the hardware was rated 7.0 or above except the old hard drive from my previous computer with the disk transfer rate being given a 5.5.
(Maxtor 160GB ATA 6L160PO)
So if I get a newer hard drive will it increase performance notably?Any advice on a reasonably priced one with good transfer rate?
Is the hard drive you've linked just for gaming? 120gb seems a bit small. Would that acheive a better gaming performance? -
Most you can get out of a HDD is 5.9 on Windows Index test. Only way to gain anything better is SSD.
Also too. The best performance to price it a HDD that spins at 7200RPM. Raptors spin at 10,000RPM. But SSD outperforms both.
That SSD is for booting purposes only. HDD will be where information games etc will store everything else. -

Ok then its time for me to google SSD.Upto this minute I have absolutely no idea what that means. Its time for me to get educated.:) -

Ok cool just googled it.I looked at this one.

Probably sounds like stupid question but in what way would this improve game performance/system?
(I play battlefield3,mass effect3.LA noire etc) and with my computer I get pretty reasonable fps on highest settings although video card goes upto 90c.
Once again sorry for crashing your thread but it's much appreciated to be able to tap into someones knowledge on a subject in which mine is pretty basic at best

Slower read and write speed compared to the one I posted.Ok cool just googled it.I looked at this one.

Most noticable difference is boot times. I can imagine load times in game would be quicker but with the low ammount of storage thats why I would store all my info/files on a HDD.
90C. Must be an nVidia card? Mine barely hit over 60C.
EDIT:: You have steam? If so add me CrackinDomes. -
Reading up on them not seeming like its worth my time of effort with that one. Had also heard before OCZ wasn't doing that great with there SSD's.newegg has a 60gb for 70 right now

Thanks to Cookz. This is on its way.
But thats only 60GB.Does that mean if you play more than 3 or 4 of the larger games you have to keep reinstalling to play them on ssd drives or is there some method where you can just use the hard drive temporarily. -
That 100$ spent is ONLY for my OS.But thats only 60GB.Does that mean if you play more than 3 or 4 of the larger games you have to keep reinstalling to play them on ssd drives or is there some method where you can just use the hard drive temporarily.

Oh OK.I've learned alot of new information today for my old brain:) So for games you will just use the HDD.At least until a reasonably priced 1TB SSD comes out.
I guess with lower power consumption will save you a few bucks on electricity too. -
Ya exactly. And as for lower power. Im drawing a 750 watt Power Supply. OCed Chip, Two GFX cards, two HDD and now a SSD with 16 gb ram. No way am i saving on power. :POh OK.I've learned alot of new information today for my old brain:) So for games you will just use the HDD.At least until a reasonably priced 1TB SSD comes out.

I see some lie here, I use 2 1tb 64mb cached 6g/s harddrive, both goes to 7+ rating, but I also use 1 ssd 64bit to cache my hdd. + the performance of an hdd come down when you need to use it to partition your files. by example for people with 8gig and less memory. If you are like me and have over 24gig of ram you don't need to partition your hdd and increase the performance overall of your file read/write. My computer is actually running maxed 7.9 rating, and all I can say is 1 ssd is never too much very usefull to cache or to run your windows. It will increase the responsivity of your driver, and system files BUT have higher chance to corrupt and break your files.
