Sony vegas pro 11 - .Avi problem.
Yo just wondering if anyone has any info on this prob I'm having. Cant open any .AVI in vegas pro.... I thought it was a problem with vegas pro 10 thats when I went for vegas 11... I've previously had Vegas Pro 9 installed and do not recall ever having any problems opening any file types
Heres a pic when I attempt to import an .AVI file. I have tried multiple avi files and got the same problem with all of them so its not just a corrupt file or anything like that.

Was considering installing K-Lite Mega Codec pack but wanted to see if anyone else knows whats wrong before I start messing around with codecs.

Uhm, That was same for me.. But then I rendered those AVI. files with Windows Movie Maker to film.. and then I can put them to Sony Vegas .. Hope that I helped.. (bad english :P )
That must have taken you a very long time...
OT : You should try K-Lite codecs, I use them, and never had any problems. -

Didnt really work...
Still doesnt open some AVI files but will open others but without the sound.... I might try going back to vegas 9 lol -
Also I just tried a few different .AVI some wouldnt load at all and gave the error like in the first pic. Some would load without sound and some would work with sound.... Got this if it will help anyone - (this is for the sound, both load the video just one with and one without sound)

Install k-little codec pack it's really useful.
But anyway it comes with a tool called
"codec tweak tool"
W7 (Since your using 11 you probably got w7)
Check start > search > "Codec tweak tool"
Xp:
Start > programs > K-little codec map > tools > codec tweak tools
Than anyway
General: Fixes > select all > Apply&Close
Than again but this time do:
Settings:
Reset > Select all > Apply&Close
And now if you got ccleaner you probably do clean up your register.
And check again if you can import avi?
Still not working?
Reinstall vegas and try it again. (Try 32 bit version if 64 still gives problems or reversed if you got 32 installed) -

KK I'll try this now
Ive already tried reinstalling trying both 32 and 64 and both had the same problem. (many times -.- ) Also alread installed the k-lite after mr vus post :P
I'll let you know when I've ran ccleaner.
Edit - Nope everything still the same. Even attempted another reinstall just for the lulz.... -

Ah ok.
try this in sony vegas;
options > preferences > general tab > check "use Microsoft DV codecs"
if that doesn't work it's a avi with a different codec or something that is not supported by vegas.
So I assume other avi files work?
anyway with gspot you can check what kind of codec that avi has so maybe look at that? -
hmm I just went to look for that option and its not even in the list of check boxes... Read through each option too and nothing even similar

Well the avi that doesnt work was recorded with bandicam and for some reason doesnt have any info in the properties.
Also just tried converting the avi to MP4 and now it says -
"An error occurred while opening one or more files.
The file is most likely corrupted or of an unknown format"
^^ Works fine in vlc
-.- FFS -

VLC is kinda special (made by us french people) and it can open any video format, so it won't be relevant if you want to know if your file will work with vegas.
I think your problem might come from the audio properties of your videos, I'll try to make some test to check it out.
EDIT : apparently it come from multi-channeling of the audio, vegas can only import audio with stereo or mono. Did you use playclaw for the vids that won't upload? -

VLC is just a player with all codecs build it
But ya that multi-channeling oh lol 6 channels ffs that I didn't see that before -.-
Check:
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/extract_ac3_from_avi.cfm
It will than extract the audio but I'm not sure if it will extract the audio from the avi file it self or just make a copy with stereo only.
If it only copies than you will have to still convert the avi file to another avi file but than with the sound muted so it won't convert the audio with it because if you do you will get a error as you have noticed. -

VLC sucks :P
K-little codec pack with the classic media player FTW
that was the point xD
even thought the work kind of different I just hate VLC xD -

VLC is just easy.... Just install once and (unless you come across a program that does need them) you dont need any extra codecs :P
Always used vlc
Ill try what you said earlier too but that still doesnt explain why the bandi cam recording (the one I actually want to use xD )wont even load into vegas at all... no video no audio. -

Any chances, your windows sound settings are on surround sound settings?
Or in bandi cam something with surround sound settings?
That it records at different channels from sound output.
So ya something with recording from different channels like surround sound 5.1 or 7.1 -

Just looking through my sound options it seems virtual surround is on? Also sample rate and bit depth is set to 24bit, 192000hz ? Understand none of it xD I uninstalled bandicam earlier so I cant even check what the settings were in there -.- lol. -
Gh0st_Slay3r wrote: »well i converted the video file to a sound file and now i can at least load the sound xD But still no video haha.... the main part.
Try to convert the video to another video file but disable the sound?
In VirtualDubmod try this:
1. load your file
Audio extraction:
2. Streams=>Stream list=> select the desired audio stream and press 'demux'
disable audio
3. Streams=>Stream list=> select the desired audio stream an press 'disable'
extract video only as avi:
4. Video=>Direct Stream Copy
5. File=>Save=> select avi and enter the filename -
