Z8: Will out accounts last forever? If the game changes, will our accounts be saved?

Nothing lasts forever, especially not in IT.
I'd say within 5 years this game will die completely, it's just a matter of time. The engine's already 7-9ish years old, that's ancient in video game terms.
Which is why I don't understand why smilegate has such an issue with giving permanent items away. It's like they think the game will last forever. -

I mean if they make a new version based on a new engine, our accounts will be transferred to the new version game, right? -

Of course not. People might get a bonus for having played on this version (example: battlefield games), but game businesses never let players keep anywhere close to everything.
You'll have to restart from scratch if smilegate makes Cross Fire 2.0 (but I highly doubt they will). -

When CS:S came out, all the CS 1.6 players had to start from scratch on CS:S? -

BF series is different though, they have a new game every year or two, and they make money by selling games instead of selling guns and items. Since they can sell you the game only once per game, they have to make new games constantly. -

even older than that the engine is.
And if the company hosting this version swaps we will most likely keep our stuff. But if its crossfire 2 then most probably not. Also your accoutn wont last forever. Once this version closes its doors, which it will do at some point its inevitable, your account and all the money you've spent on it goes bye bye. -
Maybe we can ask Saidin to save our accounts if there is a new version.
If there was somehow a new version (unlikely), smilegate would be the ones to decide what we get or don't get to keep (depending on what's changed in the new version(might not be technically possible for them to keep anything) and how money hungry SmileGate is (very)). Saidin has no say over it. -

I would like to think Saidin has a lot of influence over SmileGate.
Personally I would like to see we keep guns, characters, and rank. -

FYI this is actually Crossfire 2.0. -
Doesn't look to me like there will be a new version. The game is understaffed since quite some time now. They also discontinued the support for half of the world.
Additionally Z8games puts close to zero effort into the website. Yes, there are a lot of moderators but they work voluntary for some ZP.
Even the kind of the patches tells that there is no intention to keep this business or grow in the future. They just release a few reskins, edit ruleset for a map (Eagle Eye FFA) and maybe they buy a single new map to please everyone. Imo HMX was the last mode we will see for a very long time. Bugfixes are rare. Bugs as old as the game are still around and effect everyone in a negative sense. Just the newest bugs people keep complaining about get fixed. There are still more than 50 bugs that annoy others and me.
The only positive thing hat I see is the improvement of the autoban system.
Btw the servers are pretty unstable since last week/month.. -

Support as in, Indonesia, Russia, Europe, Japan, Korean, China, Vietnamese, Philippines, NA/UK, and now CFAL/BR.
They never made this crossfire to fight with other fps, they targeted f2p games with this currency business which is making them enough money to keep on doing it. -

If I haven't seen the Chinese version maybe I will agree, but looking at the Chinese version, which is getting more and more interesting, I think this game will continue to update.
What will happen, say 10 years from now, is what I am trying to figure out if our acccounts can be preserved over a long time. -

You'd be surprised how many games actually last quite a long while.
CrossFire is so popular right now indeed because of it's older engine, it allows more people to play it.
Older games don't always just die, if the experience is good, people will play it. Whether the future in 5-10 years will be something amazing or not who knows, but a game's engine alone doesn't determine it's future, it's future is based of multiple aspects.
Games like EverQuest 1, The first Deus Ex, CS 1.6, still going strong. And those are all old games that you bought to play. Most older bought games now go free to play to live longer, but CrossFire is already a free-to-play game and always has been.
So no one knows CrossFire's future, I personally would give it much longer than just five years. It's something we'll just have to wait and see, but people won't stop playing it just because of it's old engine and graphics.Just thought about the future, what will happen to our accounts if game changes.
As long as the game has the support of it's players to live, it will keep going. Like all F2P Multiplayer games, it's life is dependent on the players and their willingness to pay for certain things. Even if a new version came out, smart developers would not have the lack of education to just drop support of the older game. It would be nothing like Activision with the Call of Duty series as it's not a regular release bought game.
The game has life, and at least enough life for all of us currently to be off on our separate ways before we see it's death. CrossFire is one of the biggest (in terms of playerbase) MMOFPS games there is (Under TF2 and Combat Arms). And a game does not lose millions of players that quickly. (Unless for some reason SmileGate decides that we need a new Panda character and maps full of rainbows and unicorns.) -

If nobody can come up with a better F2P FPS in the next 5 years, I'll start making one. -

There's plenty of variety of F2P FPS games out already, numerous in fact, from Tribes Ascend, Ghost Recon Online, Blacklight Retribution, the upcoming Firefall, CS Online.
Tastes are different. What constitutes "better" in your opinion might be totally different for someone else. Take the recent remarks of CS:GO for example.
The point is, the life is unknown, enjoy it while we can, hope it doesn't end on us while we're still the ones playing.

Yes, I agree with what Rex said.
I think if SmileGate ever makes a new game based on CF, it will be smart for them to allow us to transfer our accounts over so we will continue to play. If I have to start over from scratch, I might choose a different game because there will be no advantage to stay with SmileGate at that poin, don't you agree?
