Why not give image signatures a try?

I know, it's been discussed before, but would it be so bad to test out signatures for 1+ week or so?

Maybe mods could select a group of active and trusted forumers and allow them image signatures for a short period of time. After that if they work out, then great. If not, then at least no one would be able to say it was never even tried.

Limit the size they can be and the amount of signatures allowed as to not break the forums.

The Signature Test Posts Here thread has 121 pages as of right now, and there have been some great signatures posted there. It would be a shame if they stayed there.

The forums could use some color to spice it up a bit anyways ;)

    Waaat!!!

They're bullies is what they are :(
  • Guessing nobody likes the idea?

    What's so wrong about it?
  • That'll just be more work for mods since this community is childish enough.
  • Because image signatures will not benefit the community much, but comes with an unnecessary risk for abuse, that must constantly be monitored.
  • There's a few things I will address here, that has likely been said in all the other topics been done.

    1. Signatures can't be changed by MODs, thus are harder to enforce.
    2. Zero filter. Thus there's no telling what else might be tied in with those sigs, especially for rotators.
    3. Being able to have brand new/alt forum accounts come in, and just slap on a sig, especially not knowing the rules makes the above all the more difficult. Especially for the spamming that would have to be worried about. There is no system to work around that.

    4. Favoritism is another problem, and it likely wouldn't be us MODs choosing such if there was a test run.

I've likely missed a bunch, but thats usually enough.

Yep, and have you seen the competitive forum? Mah gawd.. Half the flame threads go on for days until they're closed.
    Some monitoring...

Would it be possible to add/implement an option to be able to edit another user's signature and maybe avatar while we're at it?

That does sound like a problem.

IP ban, people will eventually give up using proxies.
Same applies for anything else forum related. They come here with new/alt accounts and can spam. Not a huge difference.

    4. Favoritism is another problem, and it likely wouldn't be us MODs choosing such if there was a test run.

Favoritism yes, but it would just be for a week. The MODs are the people who know the users better than anyone. No one more fitting to select a group of forumers.

I've likely missed a bunch, but thats usually enough.

Another possible test run could be to make a temporary section and allow image signature there.

Thing might be hectic on the first couple of weeks, but after that things should mellow out.

Might i remind you of the post count ribbon. Plus sig options for specific sections aint possible on the current vb version.

I'll admit it lasted quite a bit, but that was by the people who never forum and only wanted the ribbon for In-Game.

It's not like they'll start posting just for signatures.
  • There is really no advantage for the admins to allow image signatures, the gain is minuscule compared to the risk.
  • As far as I understand it, the initial plan was to make image signatures function similarly to the way they did back in the Suba days. This would involve giving an image signature to anyone with a high enough rep score. The system worked well for ensuring the people with image sigs weren't going to abuse them, and making damage control easy when it did happen. Unfortunately, importing Discuz! databases into vBulletin seems to break a lot of things, including the rep system. There's no easy way to get it working at this point in time, and it's kind of taken a back seat to more important issues with the site and game. While we don't have any word on when or if it's going to happen, I wouldn't rule out the possibility in the future.
  • Maybe when vBulletin4 upgrade comes this way.

But who knows, that's atleast 2 to 3 years down the road for Z8Games, because, you know. They've got higher priorities; whatever they might be.
