I tried pinging London and I got around 700ms. Westcoast server gives me 200ms roughly

Maybe it's just my isp (netspace).

Distance is a factor but also take into account the route of the signal.

From Oz to the uk your going through asia, india, mid east, africa and then europe. but from oz to the us its just across the pacific.

If you live in Australia you will find the lowest ping for you is on the West Coast Server.

UK would be higher than East coast server.

I have BigPond Cable, and I used speedtest to test the latency between Melbourne to London, and Melbourne to the West Coast. The West Coast gave a ping of 167, which is just about what I'd get from playing CF, and the London server have me 667ms. So no, I don't think pings would improve.

don't forget, the distants isn't the important factor, its the route taken to get to your destination. If there are underground cables connecting Australia to the US but none
connecting Australia to the UK, than the US servers will be the one with the lowest
ping.

For australians do you think UK servers will give better ping?
