Why is the update so slow?
So I had to update crossfire today, yes I played after a long time and the update was really slow.
I remember that it was slow like that before too.
My question is why is it so slow to update crossfire? the update is only like 5 or max 10 mb but never more but it takes like 15 minutes to update it. I can download 14 GB in less then 8 hours.
I had to download 14GB when I got MW3 in Steam and it finished in 8 hours, so why is it so slow to download like 5 mb in crossfire? And what the f* is the game doing with the downloaded files? I see that the bar is full and everything is downloaded but I have to wait another 5 minutes for the game to manage the files.
There are many games and it is always really fast to update them.

No one cares about Mw3 and it took me 5mins to patch. It's either your internet or the servers are busy patching 10k+ players at the same time. -

But ya pollo is right, if allot of people are downloading files from the same server it slower.
It's like;
Your uploading 1 file of 10 mb and your upload speed is 1 mb so that will be the max download speed of 1 person
But your uploading it to 5 different people so your upload speed will be divided over 5 peeps
That will result in 200kb/s per person.
So ya, now think how that works for z8...
1000 peeps at the same time downloading a file....
So ya what can you do, wait 6 hours till the traffic has lowered and than patch.
Or just patch it and come back a hour or 2 laters. -

And it was just an example, I download other games like Left 4 Dead 2 or Team Fortress 2 which are over 10GB at the same speed.It's either your internet or the servers are busy patching 10k+ players at the same time.
I live in Germany and in Germany we have fast internet, Download is 16mbits abd upload like 1.5mbits. I can download 14 gb in one day.
The patch was only like 5mb or less, there is no way it was my connection. The second file was only 28kb or something like that.
The server is patching 10k+ players at the same time? Ohh that's cute. Do you know how many people are downloading from the Steam servers at the same time? Millions! And they do not only download small 5 mb patches, they download like 10 GB all the time.and it took me 5mins to patch.
Prove it.When it starts downloading the new content, it takes at least 3 minutes for me. The patching part is a whole new story, takes about 10-15 minutes -_-"

5 minutes are still way to long. The assassin's creed revelations, which was 48 mb was finished in less then 1.1 minutes. The download starts as soon as you press patch and is finished in less then 30 seconds with a 9Mpbs connection, then they have to copy the files and that's finished in less then 10 seconds too.Rapid and Mega have dedicated servers to dl, as do Steam. The problem seems to be that the files are heavily compressed (I think to 33% of their original size) so your computer needs some time to extract them. Also the installtion routine is pretty bad. But who didn't expect something else

Ahh finally a good answer, that's what I was looking for. Anyway I have 3.6Ghz and 8GB RAM, isn't that enough to extract the 2 or 3 MB files in less then 5 minutes? I can extract 4.7 GB files in less then 2 minutes.@ off topic

Have you ever been in other countries? Well in some other countries people have 100mbits download and like 18 mbits upload but that's really rare. The german internet is really fast compared to other countries like the Czech Republic, Turkey, Egypt, Australia and other countries like that.
The upload speed is really slow in germany, I have only 1.5 upload. But it's still faster then many others.Because none of us are in the same situation, if you don't like how the game is run, you are free to make your own game or move.
