[NEW]Intuitive Weapon Guide?

This isn't a guide itself so don't move it to guides please. Just want community opinions.

The creator of http://insanecreationz.com/ has offered to turn my weapons guide into an interactive website and host it for me for free. He's done a bit of work on this but it's died down a bit as I don't have a whole lot of spare time (and I'm lazy D:).

Would the community be interested in something like this? The table can be sorted by any of the values of the columns, so you can sort the table instantly by name, damage for a specific body part, rate of fire, damage per second, whatever you want.

Screenshots of what's there so far:

Overview, not sorting by anything:
overvieww.png

Sorting from highest DPS to lowest DPS (can sort from lowest to highest by clicking it again)
dpssort.png

Sorting from highest damage to the chest from 5 meters away to lowest (can sort from lowest to highest by clicking it again)

So? What are your opinions? Should I add more of the guns into the tables and finish them up? There will be different tables for different types of guns (1 table for rifles, a different one for SMGs, a different one for sniper rifles, etc.).

  • Personally, although it was much longer, your text formatted version was much nicer, easier to read and you didn't have to guess acronyms.

Also, this format wouldn't bode well for the forums considering its page breaking for most monitors.

Beyond that, I like how its organized into the rows and columns for easy access and readability.
  • He is right....But if you got it a bit smaller it would be great....

    Group together smgs rifles snipers...eft

Then in those groups group them by guns so all Aksel together all m4s together makes picking a gun easier

This wouldn't be on the forums. Although I'd more than likely keep updating the thread I already use on the forums, this would be hosted by insanecreationz for free on his website.

It's of course a work in progress, the acronyms will be changed and some columns may be removed entirely, but I need to know if it's worthwhile.
  • I agree with dragon boy
Your format here on forum is better :)
  • I disagree with the above posts.

I think the interactive chart is much easier to use and visually compare between weapons than your forum format.

Besides the fact that people would have to go to another link to see it, I don't see how the new format would degrade the guide.

Also, if there was a feature to select specific guns to compare, and having the rest weeded out of the screen, that would be nice also.
  • Yeah looks good, I'd probably use that. It's not hard to do though, why do you need that guy to do it for you?

Would take 10 mins and a free host/domain.

Of course, I like the idea and how its done so far. The idea is great especially for ease of access. Save for the acronyms, I see nothing bad about how this is done, I in fact encourage it.

    Was just pointing out that forumers will likely stick to your text format for a few reasons;
-Its quicker to see (ie; still on the forums)
-You know when its updated (with your kind posts)
Beyond those minor things, I'm almost positive it will be used frequently.

But I think its definitely worth it. The handy sorting would give players a general idea of what they want quick and easy out of a weapon. Which is what this chart is great for.

Also, will the link to such be posted on your guides? I'd recommend it so that they have the option to visit it as well. (Though this could be obvious, just thought I'd put it out there.)
  • Why even ask it's a no-brainer. It would make the guide so much better.

For instance if someone wants the highest powered gun then they could just hit sort and there is their gun, and there is no need to check every gun manually in text format on the forum and even if you did check the forum it's tedious and you might miss something and make a mistake.
  • Like TalonBlaze said, the current weapons guide is much easier to read and understand compared to the new one. Besides, I'd rather scroll down then sideways :/

Reading through every weapons stats is easier than hitting a button and getting a result or getting them put in order?
  • I prefer the old guide by Desktop
I prefer the new guide by printer

Sometimes you don't want 'whats the best/worst' sometimes you just want stats of specific guns and such, like the M4A1, currently the guide is a simple click and scroll through and you have it right there.

Unless Gods plans on making separate tables for each weapon category, that could be a long list to scroll through for just one gun.
  • Yeah I like the idea :)

Talon - I think it would be easy enough to add a little key or something tellign what certain parts mean :P

Would be good to just be able to type in which gun you want and shabaam its there with all its info :P
  • im a visual person.. so i like the chart.. just make the headings a little bit more clearer..

Could probably be done by making the items on the list checkbox items I suppose.

Don't know of any good free domains. The coding isn't that difficult, but I don't want to have to pay for a web server.

If I were to continue on with this, the link would be posted pretty much everywhere.

Yeah, I said somewhere in the main post that I would be making separate tables for each weapon category. No point comparing sniper rifles to sub machine guns.
  • table header needs to move down with the page, kind of sticking to the top of the browser

even with that it would still be a bit of a mess of numbers, so i'd recommend optional little graphs for damage values and stuff, just to be able to compare things more visually and more quickly

there's plenty of free webhosts that would work just fine for this. 000webhost comes to mind, but i know there are plenty others
  • Yeah, it would look better and would be easier to find what ever we want to in a chart like that one.

000webhost is the free i host used for websites. It's good, and has a lot of functions/tools to manage your stuff. Free domans there are plenty, .co.nr, .tk, tipdots.com, There's also plenty of ways to get .com, .org for free. And if not, they cost very little.

Oh, yes, this would be very nice, rather than having to continually scroll up.

Or put the header in every 10 rows.

You will still be able to see specific stats.

You could have them sorted by type too, or even the mods favorite forum suggestion "use the search function" (one could be added easily) so you could type 'm4a1 Spring' and like magic it comes up.

Scrollng through heaps of text is not simple nor is making comparisons using such a method.

I suspect that is why databases were created so you don't have to read everything on one page:p
  • I find this guide really nice. In fact, I was actually looking for one for the M4A1 Silver Adv, and M4-C.
  • I agree. This chart is much easier to read thought unlike your other texts which requires close attention to find specific infos...

Those are like renting or using other's hosting...if they shut down their base then our website will be deleted without even being informed!!!

Meh I'll probably just go with what the insanecreationz guy has been doing, he's done a pretty good job so far.
