Can I use it?
So the other day I received this (except black) by accident.
So I was wondering, should I be a nice person and return it?
Or could they just call the company, tell them they didn't receive it, and get another one?
What EXACTLY is it? Is it good?
I already have a Weston 6100 from verizon, would I be able to replace it and use this one?Would I be able to use it without being tracked? It was from TimeWarner cable and inside the package are some cables, instructions, and some stickers with the rightful owners information, plus the modem of course.
What would I be able to do with it is basically what I want to know.

What you got by accident is a router.
What you have and posted is a modem.
You need the modem.
A router just lets you connect more computers to the interwebz and gives you wifi if your modem doesn't have it already.
They're not super expensive and I have no idea what you should do with it. -

Here is a link that says what you "are supposed to do." Destroying it or opening it is technically a federal offense, although no reasonable person would convict you for it.
Search destroy to find the relevant section.

Edit: Your modem is worth <$5 haha. And yes, most ISPs let you plug in a router and just restart your modem and that is all.

XD Yeah, we got that modem sent over from verizon.
So just to be clear:
I just hook up the router with my modem and I get wireless and can set up multiple computers?
No risk of being caught?
No change to my internet?
No need to contact my ISP?
Or I might just return it if it's not too late. -

replacing the router you dont have to do anything.
sometimes replacing the modem you have to put matching isp as to what the service provider has set for it. -

It's not just as simple as replacing or adding it in. To secure your network as well so outside sources can't connect. Which can be from a simple WEP code to a WPA/WPA2 encryption. 32 digit code is the best HEX protection provided via WPA2 for your wireless settings. But to setup and make sure it talks to your modem. You have to do some networking.
Yes it is as simple as plug and play. But then anyone within reach of your network(Broadcast Range) can log onto your network as well.

Depends on if your router requires a login. To connect it to the modem. In which case you need your email and password associated with your ISP. Most wireless router are found at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1(Connect to them via your web browser) then a required login is used.
User is most often found to be admin.
Pass word is often simply left blank or admin again.
Once logged in un network configs you would find your info to put the ISP's info if required and also find your security features so that you can setup your WEP/WPA/WPA2 security.
