CF Censorship and you
I'm going to try and make this post as short as possible.
We censor words in Cross Fire to cover things like language and racism to a degree. We also censor some words and phrases associated with the senseless promotion of hacks and hack sites.
But there is no way that we're going to be able to cover all bases in all languages and all topics.
The CF Chat system is limited. We have to work within the tools given to us. Since there is no option to turn it on or off we have to censor some words. While chat spam is a problem its a low priority because it doesn't affect the gameplay. Ignore the chat and you'll be fine.
We also can't cover 100% of the words because then everything in chat would just look like ***. It's already a rough enough situation that some standard words are censored from past attempts at shutting down hack spam.
Adding or subtracting words to this list is not as simple as one might think. There are different lists for different versions, and the more variances the more potential mistakes can happen and things being censored we don't want censored.
We try to update or modify the list as best we can over time, but it's not as simple as someone making an angry post saying "omg we can't say Christian but some BR just insulted me in Portuguese!" Yes, this is not an ideal situation, yes you can report people for insulting/swearing/racism even in other languages. Yes we all have to take a step back and deal with it.
Threads on this subject matter will be merged and closed as necessary because it seems impossible for people to discuss this subject without flaming.
Lastly, one note about "free speech rights". The game is a privately run game. These forums, while publicly accessible are a private section of the internet. As such, we can (and will) watch what people say. And if you step across the line we will kindly escort you off our property.

This is true but i think you guys need to remove the censor to the word "awsome" this is a little stupid to block it
and if you say "look at its head" the "at ti.ts" is blocked because of ti.ts...
And if you say im portuguese: "tar.de" the "tar.d" is blocked because of the reta.rded word -
well, those can't be rempved. There will also be some words that include some inappropriate words, if they'd make some kind of exceptions (if that's even possible) to some words like allow the "t.its" in "look at its head" people might use this to bypass the filter if they wanna insult others and the list will quickly be too long with these exceptions and it will be just too much work.This is true but i think you guys need to remove the censor to the word "awsome" this is a little stupid to block it

Therefore its not possible to not to censor stuff like "look at its head" as it includes some inappropriate word.

Can you maybe add a ingame function to block ALL chat instead of going person by person in a 16 man room?

Also,at least censor the word "noob".It's overused,ppl spam the whole time.ak noob,m4 noob,m12 noob,sl noob,slash noob etc etc.It's censored in cf eu,so why not in our version too? -

Kinda hard to ignore it if there's 3/4 people spamming the chat. And I'm sure people who don't have a high end pc are affected by it. Spamming the chat makes people lag.Originally Posted by RTOman View Post

I totally agree on this. I've asked it before, a long time ago but got no proper answer. Isn't it easier to just have a function to disable ALL the chat. Like you said yourself, don't pay attention to the chat. I won't, if I have a box that I can tick to disable it all. The radio messages can be heard so don't have to be read. And the random BS that's sprouted in the chat is horrendous.

The proper answer is we don't implement any game functions like that. Smilegate develops the game. We communicate with them on words that can be added to the list. And over time the list changes based on our input. Smilegate still has the final say. Can we add some of the words discussed in this thread? Yes. Do we know when they will be added to the game? No.
At the moment there isn't a function in the game that toggles chat on or off. Will there be one in the future? It is unknown. If there will be one in the future then we will be sure to announce it. -

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not entirely sure if it's easy to implement a function like that, but I know a LOT of people would love it and make use of it. I know I would.

Because of the "Christ" in it. You can't separate "Christ" and "Christian" because it both contain the word christ. And why "Christ" is censored is because of the reason of having all racism/religion talk blocked. -

Why isnt gay censored?
Yesterday while playing, some guy kicked the ace and start flaming "Kick this GAY GAY GAY, he can only hack, GAY GAY F11 F11" and so on
because then they would have to block straight and bi. and not being able to say bite the dust would suck. -
