The problem itself been here for 3 years, it's in all the crossfire versions and not only this one.

You can do this:

Right click the friend you want to delete, then before you confirm the deletion have you finger on top of the ESC button. When you click on the "remove" button press ESC instantly, this will return you to the lobby and the player will be removed. If you do it to fast you will not be able to delete it, try to time it.
