Go under the OPTIONS menu in-game, Select the video tab (default), and select the box that says 'Windowed Mode'

I'd say this is just normal with windows 7, but you can left/right click the crossfire window and move it to a corner of the screen (left/right because I can't remember which one moves it) and just move it back when you're done with whatever.
