so this is how lag works. (I Think)
The distance from Canada to, oh say, Brazil, is approx. 8,500-9,000 km, and the radio waves traveling from the servers in Canada travel at approximately the speed of light, (300,000 km/s), that being said it takes approximately .03 seconds for the radio waves from Canada to reach the LAN facilities in (Brazil), whereas, a state in U.S.A, lets just say Mississippi, is approx. 2100 km, and it takes the radio waves only approx. 0.0070 seconds to reach (Mississippi). .03 seconds compared to .0070 seconds is MUCH larger, and the time it takes for packets to be sent and received by the servers and the receivers is more than doubled between the two locations, therefore the ping is higher in (Brazil) than it is in (Mississippi) due to the time it takes for the Radio Waves to reach each location, correct me if I am wrong, just did this on a hunch.

Most internet traffic is via copper wire...
And you don't need to read into it so hard...they already have done the math with the ping meter on the side of the scoreboard... -

lol. since when does anyone not from the US (other than the AZN, who accel at this stuff for some reason) understand anything about their pings? they kick us for having lower pings than them. -
Copper Wiring... = Electricity.somekiller34 wrote: »crap. radio waves travel through ground, not air... incorrect info is incorrect. i still made a point though...
Not radio waves, electric waves.
And FiOS uses light (Light and Electricity both being forms of energy can be translated to binary and beyond)
And as for 'those people'...I don't care anymore. I've seen more NA players random kicking those choobs for no reason more commonly...good start, sense they have their own version and won't go and freaking play it, -

isn't electricity made of radio waves ? science teacher told us it was.
then again, our science teacher was busted for cooking meth in the science lab, so i barely believe anything the old idiot says... -
I've attempted to reply to this thread twice now and each time I finished writing my explanation it was literally a essay on the science of how computers network. I am a computer science Major specializing in networking after all...
But I dont want to get too much into things your average person who uses a computer wouldn't understand.
So lets just say that the best comparison of what the internet is, is a giant spider web. The link in each part of the web represent connections between networks or their links to networks. They way they link can be copper wire (like telephone lines usually), Radio frequencies, Satellite transmissions as well as many other types of communication with networks that make up the web.
Luckily the designers of the spider web structure made it so the shortest path between connections is *usually* first path selected to connect to between internet servers. I say usually because sometimes segments go down or are slower than others.
Basically all I'm saying is distance is undeniably a factor I guess. So is the path your connection takes (which is why someone like me living in CA using sprint wireless usually has a 150+ ping and an 80-90 ping on West server at best). -

um, no? electromagnetic radiation travels through transparent medium. it is absorbed/reflected by the ground...somekiller34 wrote: »isn't electricity made of radio waves ? science teacher told us it was.

electricity is not made of radio waves -
ja, the packets sent from the game sometimes take different paths too, which is one reason for lag and a reason downloads take so long osme times.fDeadLikeMe wrote: »I've attempted to reply to this thread twice now and each time I finished writing my explanation it was literally a essay on the science of how computers network.
