The only thing bad in the USA is the damn government. As most probubly know they are corrupted as hell.
But they dont make up the country. The people do. And they stand up for what they belive in. Its how we became one of the biggest powers in the world.

A United Kingdom 'C' is supposedly the equivalent of earning what would be an 'A' grade in the US, I'm not too sure what it's referred to over there though.
But in fairness, English Lit is pretty much the specialist subject of the United Kingdom, whereas America seems to come out on top when it comes to mathematics and Scientific Studies.
the american english curriculum consists of books concerning:
1. Slavery/Racism
2. Feminism
3. American Nationalism
100% true. -
The idea of America is a great one. But so is the overall idea of communism.
The problem is neither are executed correctly.
Many people in the American government care more about their jobs than the overall end result of what they're doing and in doing so vote on what they know will keep them in their position longer.
The latest acts being passed and being voted on prove that.
However, America even with all the shiz we're doing wrong, it can't be denied it has made as well a huge good impact on the world as well. Even the good America has done though, can't begin to cushion the impact of the bad things it's done. -

If you read it correctly, you noticed I said it can't even begin to cushion.
However, I can bring one good thing up since you want me to. And that's joining the World Wars.
Even Stalin who'm was our enemy for years later, made the statement that without American's economy, the war would not have been won. -

Yay America bringing up their one accomplishment from 70 years ago..... And they were still late. -

It wasn't our war to fight. I don't see how we were exactly "late".
Our only real war to fight, was with Japan.
And I agree, bringing up an accomplishment from so long ago. Because we haven't done much worthwhile since then, and why is that?
Our government doesn't much care about the end results. And SOPA shows that. -

this is true they supplied 1/10 of what they manufactured to the soviets but all they really did was sit back and do nothing in the war -

How was it not your war to fight...? America agreed with the takeover of Europe and extermination of Jews... until Japan tactically bombed them when their back was turned? Then great old USA come flying in as if it was their plan all alongWhy do you look at america so badly?
I dont. Americans are so overprotective and patriotic its funny to poke them a little and see what happens from time to time

No one wants to take on the Lysenko question? I mean, I learned this stuff in the 7th grade (I believe that's college level outside of the U.S.).
You kidding? our education system is so screwed up. Sure some places have it worse, but in China, Japan, and India, the kids have to work SO much harder, that's why in a couple years they'll be more powerful than the US.
But this thread is perfect for my location. -

Ik...as people have been saying, it's mostly our governments fault. It's too concerned with individuals right now, so not much is getting done.
HOWEVER. Most of the fat lazy slobs here in our wonderful country are too complacent to actuallydo anything about it, so movements like Occupy Wall Street are doomed to fail. And now that it's an election year, Obama will be afraid to do much of anything bc it will be ued against him...btw funny that Bachman only got 5% support in the Iowa Caucases and dropped out. -

What do you suggest us "fat/lazy" people to do?
I mean, we didnt cause our debt and so forth and we are being "punished" persay due to their spending as we get taxed more.
Being book smart isnt everything and no school teaches you everything u need to know. -
people did cause debt to themselves if thats the debt youre referring to
no we arent talking about personal debts. (credit cards/loans)
im talking about our countries debt.
Which is immense. ($14 trillion or so.)
its sad when you go to google and type in "how much debt........"
and it pops up is america in. -

I say more people protesting, actually making the government worried (and I include myself in the laziness). Maybe more thought to who we're voting for...no, Americans didn't cause the debt, that was the Bush Administration, but if we raise taxes ON PEOPLE WHO CAN AFFORD THEM and reduce spending on our immense defense budget, we could pull out fine. And the education thing is just a comparison, showing a good reason we're falling behind other countries. And there was something else I was going to say but I forgot it. It was smart too... -

ok, but Obama is going to India and taking 2000 people with him and will be spending $200 million a day for this trip.
The government should be worried.
It sucks. The people in the government only care about their jobs and how much money they make.
They approve raises for them but not cutting our taxes only raising them. -
I agree that's dumb, but the US isn't the only country with expenditures like that, and Obama's not the only person in the US to do it either. You've surely heard about the executive bonuses some CEOs get? Do you think that all goes to feed the hungry and "trickle down" to create jobs? Sure, it'll create a job for one guy who makes gold plated toilet seats. If the money was instead put into the employees, as salary or healthcare, it would benefit many more people.

I know hes not. But we are in more debt than ever and I dont see that as acceptable.
Other countries can afford those expenditures.
Ours thinks it does. But its like a credit card. You can use that money, but you gotta pay it back.
Only we spend more than we pay. -
Other countries actually can't either, they're in debt as well, theirs just isn't as massive. It's ridiculous, sure, but so are plenty of other private expenses. Are you complaining about the guys who spends thousands on a high end call girl and then tells his company, sorry, we're not doing well. I'm just going to fire a few of you...that's the exact same thing on a smaller scale, only it's worse bc the idea of the call girl isn't helping others, whereas I'm guessing Obama is trying to get something accomplished. This is just what you pick out bc it's the one piece of information you can find that fits perfectly in an argument to support your values.
Sorry, that was an unclear bit of word vomit, hope you can get at what I was trying to say.
And yes, we spend more than we pay, but if we move towards the defense budget, people start screaming, NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT YOU UNPATRIOTIC ********, DON'T YOU WANT OUR COUNTRY TO BE SAFE?
Well, we haven't been involved in a conflict that really affected our homeland since 1945. We can cut spending, it's just that the people who whine about cutting it only want to slash certain things.
And I have to go eat supper so I won't be responding to anything for a bit.
