The Banlist
Well I know there has already been made a thread about it like 1,5 years ago as it was removed, but well we're in a entirely different situation now.
So well here we go. I guess most of you should all remember thee banlist, those who don't: it was a simple public banlist on which u could see who got banned for what reason for how long.
The situation:
The biggest problem the community has is ,in my opinion, that they don't see that there IS something done by the z8 staff + we don't get a feedback that we really banned someone and helped the community this way.
Many people think these days that the staff doesn't do anything about the hacking reports. Some people say they don't ban people who bought ZP. Well there are dozens of those rumors.
Of course they are not the truth, but people actually dont see what is done ..
I remember seeing high ranks who spent tons of ZP get perm banned on the ban list back in 2010. People somewhat felt perceived, felt like they did something, felt like they made the game a bit more free of hacks.
Many of these rumors about the hacking reports wouldn't exist any longer if we'd bring back the banlist.
I know the Z8 staff had their reasons to remove the banlist and many people get caught by the Autoban system daily, thus those people, caught by the autoban system, won't be able to get displayed on the Banlist ..
But well if they got caught by the autoban system noone saw them in game so noone realized they were hackin, thus there'd be no need to make it public he got banned.
The main reason, for me, to bring it back would be that people would just see that they did something, this might make people report more serious and probably move their butts to do something as they feel perceived.
A con might be that there will be people saying "The person i reported yesterday didn't get banned" , just because the staff didn't check his report yet .. But i assume that most people won't post stuff like that if they knew there'd be a delay between the report and the actual ban of about like 5 days ?
Bring the Banlist back alive !
So yea that's my stance. Feel free to discuss about it, but do it in a appropriate manner.
EDIT: Gosh, what a giant wall of text

Its Called The Hall Of Shame , Its Brilliant Really , Imagine How Many Warhawk Alts Would Be There -
The main problem with the banlist as well as the other issues probably with Z8's legal department that probably made them remove it (don't know exactly what, or if it did, just a guess)
but it was the work needed just to do so. Having to put a name, regardless of if it was a trainee alt or not was timeconsuming that could be spent more on banning others than putting a name on a list. Beyond that, it didn't help anything. People still raged about how long it took, why 'this obvious person wasn't banned yet, he must spend zp' deals and all that jazz.
Plus, it would just be an obnoxious wall of names. The honorable soldier is essentially a players way of seeing if someone is banned without the needed banlist. which i think works out alot better. -

Well couldn't it be made somehow automatic to put the names on the banlist? There are always ways ..
For those raging about people not being banned fast enought: after people realize that their reported hackers actually get banned, even if it takes some time, they will stop raging. There are numerous threads about Z8 not doing anything on the forums for quite a while now, the banlist would just visualize that they do something so that even the last person would get it.
And i can't imagine that threads with people raging that the staff doesnt ban fast enought will be more than those threads with people raging that the staff does nothing and doesn't care about the hacking situation.
Checking every time if someone, who got reported by you, has lost is honorable soldier ribbon is somewhat time-efforting and some people don't even ban people these days, thinking the staff doesnt care about their reports anyways.
Seeing the banlist with all the names of banned people would open their eyes that there is something done, thus the staff would actually get more respected by the community. -

Afaik, the forums generally are geared towards to prevent being able to automate stuff like that.
But I don't see how checking the forums is any faster than tracking the guy you wanted specifically banned anyways. (Cuz honestly, thats what most do. They wouldn't check more than just being able to confirm their reports got through, i doubt they'd check to see others as much as it doesn't bother them.)
Besides, not everything Z8 does have to be to the public eye, and many things aren't. Nor do they need to, most of the time.
If you reported a person, one should be confident enough that they will get banned. Adding the banlist will not change the fact of such an outcome. -
Instead of having a banlist of names of people we reported...
how about a banlist of hackers banned. That's it. Just numbers, no names and no hack names of course
If you looked at HPX's pcture he posted a few days ago, you would see that on a good day, theyve banned over 3000 hackers.
Imagine that on a ban list.
The banlist would be redundant. Its not coming back... deal with it. -
Well it's more likely ment to be for those, who don't report people yet as they think the staff does nothing.[MOD]Talonblaze wrote: »But I don't see how checking the forums is any faster than tracking the guy you wanted specifically banned anyways.

Those who reported people can stick to what they used to do if they feel like doing so.
Of course not everything has to be for the public eye. It's just that they'd earn more respect this way and could possibly get back the confidence of they're player, as many players don't trust in them any more, some even lost respect to them but well that's something different.
In my eyes it'd be a win-win situation.
Z8 gets back the confidence of their players.
The players feel perceived and approved. -
As already said they could do it automatic somehow. (if that's even possivble, i'm pretty sure it is)
They should spend time making that but time to make some other hack prevention system.
It doesnt matter if they put it back, people will still complain becuase they dont understand how easy it is to make a new account and hack again. -
They don't "make" the hack prevention systems, they just hire companys, like they hired Xtrap. They should spend time making that but time to make some other hack prevention system.
Then it's time for improvements in this case?Giggletron wrote: »They did. It broke constantly.

My personal opinion is that these rumors tell the truth. We see what is done cause nothing is done. The autoban system works fine. But if a hacker is not caught by this system nothing will happen. Many people think these days that the staff doesn't do anything about the hacking reports. My facts:- It takes at least 1 month to ban a hacker. 8 tries in the early december already showed that.
- I know two big clans. These clans do everything in order to win. Their only purpose is hacking. Both regularly change the clanname and/or the sign. One of them already reached the top 10. You want to know my definition of a big hacker clan? I use this term when there are at least 50 clan members. When you play against them in a clan war and they will likely lose they suddenly start to shoot/look through walls or run like rabbits. Everytime.
- Do you know "rom-usa" or "no mercy07"? It was the same clan although both don't exist anymore - renamed. I think it is okay when I say that they are a bunch of hackers - remember there is no clan with one of these names right now so nobody is harmed
But they keep hacking under a new name and they do it very succesful. A clan win/lose higher than 7 proves that.
I just see one positive thing in your idea. When there was a ban list everyone would see that it is useless to report. This would decrease the number of reports and so the staff had more time for things like the website. -
The Z8 staff is already overwhelmed so don't expect that they could handle a ban list at the same time.

Don't get too far off topic please. They are banning hackers, even if it might take a while. And just because some people hack in a clan you can't ban a whole clan therefor.
As already said in a earlier post they could make it automatic, in order that they don't have some extra work.
And actually why would people realize that it's useless to report? It would more likely be the opposite, as people realize there are people getting banned actually and that the staff bans people, doesn't matter wether the person bought 100k Zp or 0. Therefore it would encourage people to report. -

ROM-USA are annoying. All high ranks and hacking, and they get away with it.
I agree that the ban list should be bought back, I may report people then -
With what sense?
What's The Point Of A Ban List Flooded With Trainees And Corporals ? They Will Just Make Alts
2nd LTs And Above , When They Get Banned , They Get Dealt A Severe Blow , And All The Time They Spent Leveling Up That Account Gets Obliterated In The Blink Of An Eye -
Actually the Banlist would be there to show people that there are many people getting banned, by just posting 2nd lt+ the number of banned hackers the public sees is probably around 1/3 of the real number as there are obviously way more low ranks hacking. It would also give you the opportunity to check wether the guy you reported is banned now or not. What's The Point Of A Ban List Flooded With Trainees And Corporals ? They Will Just Make Alts

By Just showing 2nd LT+ people might think those are the only ones getting banned, they see the number is small and will think again that the staff does nearly nothing.
Maybe the list could be subdivided by ranks, that might be an opportunity, but would actually make it just more complicated too the staff. -
There are already people like this now, the point is just to show the players that the staff does something.lalalalhawk wrote: »I rather not have a ban list, its just a waste of time even if we got it people would complain like they used to "I REPORTED HIM WHY WASNT HE BANED WDF?? It's the same as in politic. People want somewhat more transparency. -

Bad idea! Players will know how fast they work on this issue. If the number increased by 1 everyday, players get ****ed off.
And finally, they can write a script to automatically change the number. -
indeed
ROM-USA major hacker clan. they let my main in because i was pinpointing in GM and they thought i hacked. i didnt know that they hacked until after i played a few clan matches. they lost alot in GR and started walling them. ROM-USA is 100% hackers and not a single legit player other than myself was ever in that clan. after that match i left the clan immediately. My personal opinion is that these rumors tell the truth.
