No one is forcing you to do them.

You have to do 6 out of 12 missions to receive the 30 day AK. If you don't like today's mission, try the one tomorrow.

calendar isn't too helpful to check reward status. I think, if i don't press button - i don't get a reward. For example, i do a Day 4 event, but don't receive red smoke grenade...
