Suggestion to change system

  • The.

This is the kind of closed minded pedantry that causes me to cringe from the deepest parts of my bowels.

I hope you don't take this as a personal insult as I am only expressing my true thoughts.
  • The rules are stated clearly, when it says no political or religious discussions I take it to heart and carry through with that. I have nothing against debates, I enjoy them, however only as long as they pertain to the CoC that was set.

There's a reason it was posted there. Chances are previous teams tried to let it slide and only resulted in insults, flaming and infractions that could have otherwise been avoided. The community simply isn't mature enough to handle those kinds of topics, so its easier to not let them happen at all.

The rule has been with us since Suba forum rules. However back then, they didn't have quite the moderation tools we are capable of in vBulletin. With the OP's new thread of Ron Paul, I am suggesting we treat it as a test and see if the community can handle it. If they can prove to us that they can handle such a discussion, we can talk as a team about a way to handle such discussions and debates in the future.

Sometimes, we need to take a step out into muddy water, and see if it's possible to survive on. If it causes to many issues, we'll disregard it and keep on as we have been until a possible new idea comes up.

Here's to hoping the community can show us that the past is the past, and that they can handle such a thing.

Haha, made me chuckle a bit, that's for sure.
I got thick scales, I can take it.

I guess its a good thing I took a look at this thread first, my first reaction was to do my duty as usual.
However, keep in mind a few good threads doesn't mean the community is truly honest about keeping the rules proper, there's alot of bad apples still.

But I'll leave it in your hands as to when the line is drawn in this case Rex. I'll be keeping my eye out for violators, but the political, and ONLY the political discussions will be had at this point. Religious ones are not up for any leeway.

In agreement. I'll be talking to Saidin and some of you guys tomorrow for ideas on how we can go about this. But I do think that we need to take some sort of step and try it. If it doesn't work out, then hey, we tried, no harm in it.

I am in agreement however for now to limit it to Political debates, and not religious. We will run a few tests, run a few ideas through the team, and see how things go.

Remember guys, it only takes a few people to ruin this. So if someone does start issues, don't respond to them, just wait for us to take care of it. We then see that you guys do have the maturity to let things go and continue on as if they never happened.
  • I don't think there are enough people mature enough to withstand a political discussion without implying insults in some manner.
  • Why can we not talk about Kim Jong, but have not just one, but several, threads in "Honor of 9/11".

why do you want to? and why here on a kids game forums?

I think where two or more come together for one goal, anything is possible.

The old pedantic me would've thought otherwise but I have gotten past that.

Abandon your pedantry Dive into the open flowing waters and leave the stagnant canals be.

Yes, but it's two/one people/person vs the professional trolls and uncaring community.

That's gonna be a near impossible battle.
  • Prohibiting drugtalk I do understand, most of the kids here are way underage and easily influenced.

I see no reason to discourage serious political discussion, and I personally ignore that rule.
Instead I put some extra effort in to keeping it serious, through posts and post deletions.

As long as it doesn't degrade into personal insults on who's side one is on... There isn't a real need to be that "tough" on the issue.

And yea, the sexual provocation, or the drug talk, can be done away here... as you said dot, too many youngling's.

Easily influenced? Hell, they think ZP is real!
  • +1 for political/economic forum with rory and dot as the only people with mod powers in it.
