The totally revamped Spectator Mode!
in Suggestions
As the title says, I think maybe there should be a re-tinkling into the current spectator mode. Don't get me wrong, it has an awesome status quo.
But what about all those little tourney's or Forum rooms with a referee that doesn't partake in the game? What about that spot that could have been used to be played on but otherwise was taken up by spectator spots?
I suggest a different way to include spectator spots. Rather than take away potential gaming spots, you leave them be... and between the Black List and Global Risk logos in the game room lobby, you have the...
Solo Spectator Spot! sSs (patent pending xD jk)
This special spot can be accessed from the channel lobby, rather than Join to play, you would press the Spectate button to get into the room lobby, but with your name in the spectator spot.
It can hold up to the maximum number of player capacity in the room, 16, even though it shows up as ONE spot! As such, you would question... how? All I can think of at the moment, is that the server would handle that xD. Because of such a radical idea, you wouldn't be able to see other spectators, only yourself in that spot, even though there can be MULTIPLE spectators!
Even more so, the creator of the room has the option to limit the number of spectators to that spot via the room creation menu.
MODs and GMs can even use this new Spectator Mode to be present in games without even having to partake in the game! There would be a secretive sidebar or spot for MODs and GMs to be able to spectate any game without knowledge or consent of the creator/host of the room. All nice and quiet.
While ingame, either as a player or as a spectator, when you press tab or your preferred key to bring up the scoreboard, it will be seen as 2 different lists.
You will continue to have probably in the center middle the player scoreboard, but maybe on one side, you can see a list of all the spectators in the room watching!

That would be a nice feature to be added, but my question for that: can a replay from a spectator be admitted on the same status of a replay of an ingame player?
For me, I think having the option to save the replay would be great, but to then allow spectators to complete hack reports on games they didn't play, but rather watched in on doesn't seem ... right.
I think that then there would be a different replay file created... One with a different file extension so that it couldn't be used to submit a hack report.
I
the idea to allow spectators to save replays, but I do have disagreeing thoughts on allowing them to use that replay for hack reporting.
That latter part should maybe be another thread, cause it can go into the philosophical question of what is a spectator and what they do. Are they equal to players?
Thanks Phil for your input! -

Don't forget that the .cfr replays DO NOT save as if you were the one playing.. Even on the multiple replays I have, it doesn't start off with the view of my character. It usually starts on the opposing team for some reason. Also, .cfr replays allows you to watch the action in any view point just like spectator mode.
So it should be able to save under the same .cfr extention. No real difference between watchin a .cfr and spectating a game.
I think if we can have this, there could be possible "clans" or such that would volunteer to spectate matches to ban hackers.
The only thing I do not like about spectator mode is that you can't use any chat which to me, makes spectator mode more boring than what it is already.. You would have to rely on some 3rd party software that hopefully x-trap doesn't think it's a cheat (like xfire) to be able to communicate with others.. I know this stops specators from helping a certain side but it's also rather annoying having to just watch people running around.. So I guess to have a clan chat available in spectator mode at the very least would have me be able to do something..
I would be 1 of the first to sign up to be a volunteer to spectate and report hackers and since spectator does allow for a bird's eye view of the battlefield, it would be awefully easy to figure out who's the cheat and who's a legit player. -

Well spectating is different from judging, or even moderating. It's just to layback and relax... take it easy. Cheer on a player or team.
I do agree we should be allowed to chat, but maybe in a different chat from a player's chat cause I'm still not likin' the ghosting that goes on in spectating rooms.
Well with the .cfr... the question is, can a hack report be submitted by even a person who didn't even partake within the game? -

I would say so.. The person spectating has a better view and will most likely be able to submit a legit report instead of a false report against legit people like most people do already...
I know the chat would be a little sketchy but at least they should allow clan chat/ private chat. Because even clannies and friends call each other in some sort of fashon anyways to strategize and tip each other off.. Maybe make it strictly clan chat on ghost mode.. I guess I can always use my iPod and do a word puzzle while spectating.
I would also want to add being able to see the chat in-room just since people usually write entertaining things. They won't see team chat on either side since they're not on either team. -

How could this work on a competitive level? I'm not a WOGL fan myself, but I do try to look at all aspects for my suggestion. That's why Phil mentioned Ghosting. -

I'm sorry then? I was looking at this at a public level.. Since I could finally be able to report cheats without having to destroy what's left of my kdr..
If the chat would really screw things up like that, then fine forget it... I can find other things to do while watching people run around for 10 minutes. -

Don't be sorry. It's great that you're challenging this suggestion, as well as adding your own thoughts and opinions. I hope that this suggestion with everything below gets reviewed.
watching people run around for 10 minutes? How about watching cars go in a circle for hours? xD -

Only entertaining if you're a fan of a few drivers. Only a fan of one, it gets boring rather quickly.
But that's why there's tivo and all that other good stuff. -

It isn't a wall of text. It has been paragraphed out, though I do admit it was a little hastily done.
tl:dr version:
reorganize the Spectator mode in a way that it does not take up gaming spots. Instead of multiple spots shown, there's one spot that can host multiple specators.
pretty much.
You capitalize every word, yet you cannot take the time to read a lengthy suggestion...

Funnest solution: Make it like a stadium, where the other players can run around the outside of all the maps, protected by an invisible wall.
Also add spectator brawling, so they can beat eachother up.
And some cheerleader roles as well.
Practical solution: Just let me talk when I'm spectating D=
except in clan wars =| lol
Personally I have no quarrel with spectator mode other than not being able to talk =/
