Why was Bravo Server moved?
There was no announcements of it, but about 2 patches ago my ping from Bravo went up by a good amount. That makes me think that they moved the server from it's original location.
I had almost the same if not near the ping I get on Alpha Server, which is about 65 Ping. In Bravo server I get constant 100-132 Ping and it's not stable. It's not my internet since I haven't had any ping problems in the past 6 months.
An explanation from a GM would be best.

this is something to do with your internet provider.
i remember my friend saying his ping is constantly higher in bravo/charlie then in alpha and this was long ago.
I clearly stated that I have no problems in any other server, but Bravo and Charlie.
Can you please read the whole post next time, that way I don't waste my time highlighting things I already covered in my first post. -

Pings don't randomly rise from a good amount of people from a server which was suppose to have near the same ping as Alpha server. Your knowledge doesn't mean anything here >.<

My ping is still the same if not near the same in Alpha as it was last patch. The problem here is Bravo and Charlie servers. Why were they moved? and Why wasn't it announced? -

Its a wonder they didn't announce it, they announce every thing they do it seems that they think will make a better change, unless something is wrong with bravo they wouldnt want to announce that -
Bravo, Charlie, and a few others (forget which) have moved to a different datacenter. This happened months ago... unless there was another move lately (I haven't played in a while)
They're still in Toronto, just a different datacenter. You will have different routing to them.
Personally my ping is about 15ms *lower* in Bravo/Charlie/etc -

This is the first time my ping changes from those two servers, a better question will be: Why are you here if you can't even read a post and use logic? Not to mention you haven't been here enough to understand a change. -

Have you done an IP trace with your ip to find the location of the exchange?, if you are having problems contact us your ISP.
ISP [Internet Service Provider]
I have stated that my ISP has nothing to do with z8games server changes. Can you skip that next time, or maybe read more clearly? -

The servers don't move they are located in Canada, even the UK servers are in Canada.
I read the thread title, I didn't want to read what you had to say.
It's your ISP, the servers haven't moved. -

People say "ISP", they mean the whole infrastructure.LawLinFace wrote: »Only ret4rds would thought that it was the ISP.
Which is obviously at fault.
So lets give it a hearty guess and say "people who can't read the underlying implication of a post are most likely well below the average intelligence quota".
tldr; you're wrong and arrogant.
It IS an infrastructure issue, most likely.
An ISP just rents the cables.
The company owning the cables, specifically the cables and switches routing the traffic from Bravo and Charlie, probably messed up somewhere so they're routing utp packs poorly.
Just play on different servers. You don't need an answer, you just want one.
You just got a very good guess, which is as close as you're gonna get until tech staff at the bravo-charlie datacenter reads this forum and decides to post, which is never. -
Since everyone ignored my post which actually explains this, I'll write a bit more...
A while ago (months and months), several of the CF servers moved to a different datacenter. This move was not announced by any GM/mod on the forums.
I know that the servers that run Bravo and Charlie have moved to the new datacenter. Alpha is still at the old one, as is Echo. Delta was still at the old one last time I checked, which was several months ago. Same deal for Foxtrot.
When I say "old" and "new" datacenters, here's what I mean...
"Old" datacenter: Q9 Networks
"New" datacenter: 3z Canada
Both datacenters are still in Toronto. Due to the way the internet works, your packets (probably) travel through a different series of routers in order to reach either datacenter. This gives you a different ping.
Of course, server locations don't matter much if there's a problem with the game server itself (software or hardware) that is causing higher pings, or if your ISP is having trouble of their own, but that's not the case 99% of the time.
Last time I checked, my ping in Bravo and Charlie is half of my ping in Alpha, simply because I have much better routing to 3z Canada.
Not exactly. This is a "gotcha" of the way CF works. The servers that run the channels are all located in the same datacenter***, most likely for low-latency access to a main database server/cluster. The actual servers that power the gameplay are located all over the world (Canada, South US, West US, UK, etc...). There are multiple gameplay servers behind each named server (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie...), and gameplay servers can be shared by multiple named servers.tempzzzzaay wrote:The servers don't move they are located in Canada, even the UK servers are in Canada.
[size=-3]*** They're either multiple physical servers, OR simply multiple virtual servers on one box with each assigned its own IP. The latter would make redundancy basically zero, so it's probably not that. At least I hope not

I hope this clears some things up.
