Joining a Game

When i try to join a game the loading bar gets halfways between the 'a' in loading and the 'o' and stops. The screen then minimizes for a second to a small black screen then goes back to big screen, a few seconds later it closes and says "Connection has been delayed", can anyone help me with this? I'm new to this game
