HGW Stops at 93% and CF won't start.

Hi,

I used to play Cross Fire a longtime ago (even before mutation mode) and everything worked fine. Now I tried to re-download it and everything went fine until I press the "Start" button on the patcher, then the X-Trap thing would load, and HGW would also load but stop at 93% then close and nothing happen next.

I tried multiple things...
- Reinstalled CrossFire
- Reinstalled CrossFire with another browser (Google chrome and Mozilla Firefox instead of IE8)
- Did both things above but without any AV on
- Added CrossFire folder and HGW to my AV exceptions

And many other things...

There's something I did that made the game work... I'll explain...
I installed the game and then uninstalled Internet Explorer 8. Then I restarted my computer and started CrossFire without having IE8. Of course, some windows popped up saying that it was trying to open files that it couldn't open (because internet was missing). I hit Start, everything loaded perfectly fine and the game started until I get to the login screen (where I couldn't login because I didn't have IE8).
So, I think there might be a problem with a windows update that prevents the game from working... Trying to download it with different browsers didn't work...

I use ESET Smart Security 5, I run on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 and I have the necessary specs to play the game (I already played it before).

Anyone has any clues on how I could make the game work? Or maybe the staff could even try to find why the game would only work without some windows update related to Internet Explorer?

Everytime I uninstalled CrossFire I deleted EVERYTHING I had to delete and ran CCleaner, I know about this. I also searched through the web A VERY LONG TIME before deciding to post with a potential solution... I'm not as good as other people here with computers, so I wanted some more professional people to help me... :)

    I live in Quebec, Canada... and I've seen people having this issue living in the same place. Is Quebec banned or something? I know I used to play though...

    First of all, sorry for the triple post (awch! :/) but I found a solution to this (somewhat) common problem.

    If Cross Fire doesn't load after Step 10 (93%) of the HGW loading, it's because there are some windows updates related to Internet Explorer 8 that prevents X-Trap from working.

    I went to Control Panel > Add/Delete Programs and I deleted Internet Explorer 8.

    When I restarted my computer, a kind of yellow shield popped at the bottom right of my screen saying that Windows had some updates. I clicked on it and it said "internet explorer 8" so I installed it. When it asked to download IE8 updates, I unchecked the box and installed it.
    Then, I started CrossFire and could get to the login screen (right now another error says that it's not available in my region but a lot of people are having this issue and it's being worked out).

    SO THE SOLUTION WOULD BE: Find a way to install Windows Internet Explorer 7 instead of 8, and see if 7 can play the game properly.
    If it can't, then the solution would be to re-install Internet Explorer 8 without the updates.

    Anyone knows how to install IE7?
