From what I heard he isn't going to be tried for child abuse as the daughter doesn't want to press charges, she only wants him to receive psychiatric care.

I really think that the verbal abuse harmed her more than the physical aspect.
Mostly the fact he repeated over and over that it was her fault, my father was abusive for a short while, and that definitely left the most scarring on me, it's hard reconciling to yourself that things aren't actually your fault when everyone around you says that it is. I can only imagine her mother doing it also was doubly painful. -

She got spanked for downloading from torrents, her father is a judge and as she is a minor it could have had a massive effect on his career and life. I would have disciplined her also if I was a parent in that position but he DID go overboard. That is just ridiculous I would have grounded her from the PC or something.

I wonder which states denied equal Womens rights and sexual respect amendments, I wonder which states still have racial issues, a few of which have laws from the Supreme Court which state that they need to get support from Congress before passing some laws (AKA Arizona laws with immigrants).

Believe me, the republican extremists trying to hold on to old world beliefs still exist. But for the most part there are large portions of the population who have moved on into a more modern way of living. Things still stay the same culturally, but the actual lifestyles and beliefs are slowly moving and adapting to modern society although it is going a lot slower than surrounding areas. -

Every state, and every region is going to have their fair share of ret@rded, religious fanatics attempting to hold EVERYTHING productive back as long as possible.
The South may be the Bible Belt, the Slave Belt, and whatever other belt you can think of, but times are changing, and the South, just like the rest of the country, is moving at the same pace.

She doesn't want him prosecuted anyway. She wouldn't press charges even if the statute of limitations wasn't up.
And iz you're right, disciplining through physical force is understandable, beating your daughter across her legs stomach and thighs while telling her it is her fault and you are going to beat her into submission is wrong.
