To Movie Makers and Viewers

Just a quick question for both audiences:
Would you participate in a video contest (making the video or voting in it) where there was a system allowing both the public viewers and a panel of judges to vote on the entries? The public vote counts for part of the decision and the judge's votes counts for the rest. This combined decision would advance videos through the contest and ultimately decide the winner.
The other choice would be the usual panel of judges to decide/advance entries and ultimately pick the winners without public opinion weighing in. I don't need a detailed response if you don't want to give one. A short response is fine. Thanks everyone.

love the idea since the movie making comp back in June i may b wrong but i have seen much more editors with new vids and love to see more interaction with the community and have people create more vids, which will be interesting to watch. i guess the idea of use voting ; prob can get out of hand but it wont be hard for mods to stop the trolls or what not.

To be honest, Most movie making contests are unfair for 90% of the community because of the editors from EM,DM, and VM.. They come out with just over edited frags that you can't see with overlays out the ass, Thats why i don't compete in them. As for voting, If you are going to open the public to having an input then don't have judges, Have a deadline and post all the videos on one thread with a poll asking what one they like the best. I think that would be the only way to involve the community for voting. -

Although I can understand what you're trying to say, you've said a completely different, and false, thing in this post. Just because xM editors use overlays does not mean it is unfair for someone who is not in an xM. -

I wasn't saying it wasn't fair because people used overlays its just that there are a handfull of editors who over edit and people think it is a god like thing, in reality frag videos are for frags.. -

This is stupid. Frag movies are just movies made using frags as their primary medium. This does not mean that they have to be based around the frag.

This is stupid. Frag movies are just movies made using frags as their primary medium. This does not mean that they have to be based around the frag.

You SHOULD be blaming it on the judges. It is the JUDGES who choose badly, overedited movies (according to you) as the winners, not the editors. -

I should, but i'm not.. because that is going to do nothing.. It would be more fair for the community to judge it themselves like i said. -

NO IT WOULDN'T.
The VAST majority of the community wouldn't judge it off skill in editing and the actual outcome, they'd just all vote for the one they liked the most.
Letting bad judges judge and letting the community judge are BOTH stupid ideas. The only good idea is getting a panel of judges who actually know what they're talking about. -

Alright, go into vegas and make a clip without overlays that is just as good as a clip with overlays.. It isn't going to be as good as a clip with standard effects from vegas(depending on your editing style), And i didn't say it's failing JUST cause of the overlays, People who are just coming into movie making who want to have a little fun and join a competition like this are not getting a chance because frost,sum,sista etc. are coming in with these "amazing" clips and the judges and community are pushing the "newbies" aside.. the Fan works side of cf has been dead for awhile. -

I can't critically compare my actual skill in editing with others, since I find it impossible to accurately judge my own skill level. -

I can't critically compare my actual skill in editing with others, since I find it impossible to accurately judge my own skill level.
Exactly, you don't use overlays.. Have you won a competition that frost or anyone with his style participated in? -

I'm not on the fence about anything, you must be reading something wrong, you think i just mean overlays themselves, i mean over edits in general, overlays are just used the most in them.. It kinda is the editors fault, Look back when source first came out, editors were clean and it was solely on flow velocity and an effect here and there, now its just screamo,twitch,motion blur and heavy colors.. -

I can say the earth is rules by flying hippos, that doesn't make it true.
I can't recall any Z8 movies competitions besides the CFFA, and I've been here since Dec 08.
I was saying z8 because i've seen mods posting it, I don't see why you are all in my ass about it, i have my opinions you have yours, you are just looking to argue with someone because you have nothing else to do tonight.. I'm done. Lates.
