need computer build

So you know, I'm not very savy of actual tech for computers, I just know the basics of the basics, I'm lucky I built my cpu without it exploding. >.>
If you're looking for games that are graphically intensive, you'll want a quad core cpu, a 1gig video card, 4 gigs of ram, a mobo that can support your choice of processor, and then a good case with a decent cooling system.
The harddrive varies based off your needs, if your not a big downloader of games and such, you'll get by with cheap hardrives 500gb's or lower.
Power supply comes into play based off the overall voltage that results from everything above. -

Total is $515.92
EDIT:
Do you have a Microcenter store nearby? The i3 2100 is much cheaper there at $100. You could get a better GPU with that savings.
A similar build, but with better GPU and case, from Microcenter came to be just $415. So look for that store near you. -

I am guessing gaming is your priority? The dual core i3 2100 beats quad core AMDs, so yea. AMD sucks to be honest. Just get everything that I listed from microcenter and instead of the GTX 550ti get the GTX 460. You should be under $500. -

Wise choice sir/madam. In today's world, you can build a pretty good gaming PC that will blow out any $1k laptop easily. And since taking notes is your biggest priority for a laptop, any i3 machine should do your job just fine. -
