I don't get why people say RIP to steve jobs

Its a statement of condolence, not a religious position.
May his BODY rest in peace.
May his family be able to rest in peace after the loss.
How do you rest in peace when you are a Buddhist? You reincarnate and have your remains cremeated. Stay on topic dot. I'm talking about the statement R.I.P steve jobs, not R.I.P family of jobs. -

Fact is, taking something as stupid as "rest in peace" literally is just as stupid as the phrase itself. -
Rest in peace is meant to just show that you are sorry for others' loss.
It is a loss after all, no matter which religion nor incarnation.
Loss, because you might not see this person in his/her new life on something/someone else than used to be.
^^'
Okay, then Off-Topic: I have no idea, who's Steve Jobs. -

The term rest in peace was used for Christian followers because of their afterlife. With a vast majority of the world population being Christian, Catholic and Jewish, the term 'Rest in Peace' is far more frequently used. People hop on the band wagon and say R.I.P without understanding the bacground of the phrase. It's like how I 1v1 dot, he gets 1 kill out of 15 then say 'owned' without knowing what it means. His remains are already cremeated, how will he rest in peace? -
Language develops.
RIP today is a message of condolence towards the family, a "i hope he rests in peace" even though you couldn't possibly know it.
Its also a Latin phrase, they're not frauds for saying it in English either.
Its just social convention. I'm sure Steve won't mind. -

Perfect example. You don't say R.I.P because you feel sorry for them, but to give praters to the dead so he can have a great after life no matter wgere he is going. It is also to hope tombraiders will not disturb the dead. -
I do not own.If you own an Apple product, I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs had something to do with the creation of it.
^^'
So no wonder I didn't knew.
Thank you for telling!

Ash is his remains?
It's materia afterall..
And what comes about that RIP -word.
It depends of the person what does it mean.
Seems like you are thinking it different way than me, for example.
<o.o>
But I guess that's good.
(I would talk longer about this, but got to run to bus!) -

Language in my opinion is not developing. People bring down the value of a language as days go on. There is a reason why in any buddhist 'funeral' you will not see anyone say rest in peace. The reason for that is because there is no rest after death. You are working your way to born until you hit divinity. It is just not right to twist a the original meaning of a word just because everyone are dumb enough to say it. I give respect to Jobs and all but no one should say R.I.P to him as it is impossible. -
Well thats just a religious assumption, whereas RIP is just a social convention.taeyeoNNNNNN wrote: »Language in my opinion is not developing. People bring down the value of a language as days go on. May he never rest in peace and may his soul forever wander the earth. -
