Military Intelligence Re-make
Perhaps the Military Intelligence Ribbon should be brought back, with a change.
Instead of requiring 25 posts, it requires that you only have to visit the forums.
This would encourage forum activity, while at the same time avoiding the problem with the old Military Intelligence requirements, spam posts filling the forums.

See, the problem with this is that it's much too easy to do that. Even an "accidental" click could get you a free ribbon. Even 25 posts was much too easy. Don't forget, the original ribbon required 1000 posts; it was reduced to 25 because of spammers.
If/once/hopefully when/eventually when, forum upgrades come, something else could be introduced, but nothing is guaranteed; so all you have to do is hope and wait for something to come out. -

Yes, but MODs can remove spam. It should of been 5,000 posts, or even 10,000 posts. And they have to be legit posts. (That would make my post count 7). -

You don't understand. That precise point was the original mindset [Oh, we have XX amount of moderators, we'll be fine against the occasional spammer]. We got that, times 1000. There were at least 100 people on at the same time spamming random messages. It was getting overwhelming for the team.
Even if it was 5000 posts, people would still post farm. While it may not be as obvious, it could still be there. People could just post for the sake of posting to get the ribbon, not to contribute to discussion. -

I noticed that Off Topic Posts don't count. Why was that implemented? My guess is to reduce spam.
I just realized that there are only 10 Moderators in the CF Forums. Hm...I have a lot to think about. :P -
What if u just give harsher penalties for spamming or things like that? You don't understand. If its obvious some1 spams to get the ribbon, give him a warning; if he continues, give him a 7 day ban ; and if he keeps spamming like before, give him an ingame ban -

you have to be Sfc + TO be allowed to have a forum acc
this would stop spammers and alts -
On the one hand thats a good idea..Vn_Strife_XV wrote: »Yes but you could make forum restrictions

But on the other hand : what if a rookie needs help cz he cant play cause of some errors and wanna post that on the forum? or need some help in general ?
He'd be doomed.. -

problem solved -
maybe mod approval ribbon? lol
or bring back the karma system that only mods can rate
so you can make a karma ribbon
Well, there would be numerous complaints about mod favoritism and all that jazz. "Oh why did he get good karma when I clearly had this which is far superior!" So, overall some other system would be needed.cccool9252 wrote: »Yes, but MODs can remove spam. It should of been 5,000 posts, or even 10,000 posts. And they have to be legit posts. On top of what Hi noted, we are STILL dealing with posts from people that think the military intelligence ribbon exists. Yes we can remove posts, but when half the team is available at only certain portions of the day, it significantly reduces effectiveness. Not to mention the ones that are on don't work 24/7. -

i got ignored -
Well but i dont think that Z8 counts the characters per posts :bBadMonkey666 wrote: »what about this? 100 Forum posts with at least 75 characters? This way they have to write more and this might prevent the spam, plus its harder to get the ribbon.
and then they can just write
sdqwdqwdqqwqqwdqd as long as they hit 75 characters ;D -

they do, they know when the post is to ******* I think it's not hard to get rid of that "sdqwdqwdqqwqqwdqd" **** cuz you can easily spot it and delete it and ban them from the forum if they do it to often.
I don't know the rules but they could make it so you can only create one forum account per your own account so they can't log in after they got banned.
Or they could make trusted forumers to co-moderators or moderator helpers.
Edit: wtf is that?
anyway they count the characters because they know when your posts is under 10 characters. They should be able to tell if your post is under 75 too. -
That would just give the mods even more work to their actual and dont forget they dont get payed for it so make em stay on pc 24/7 just too delete post wont work most probably.BadMonkey666 wrote: »they do, they know when the post is to ******* I think it's not hard to get rid of that "sdqwdqwdqqwqqwdqd" **** cuz you can easily spot it and delete it and ban them from the forum if they do it to often.

Its always hard to find new good mods that dont abuse their power and some of these "co mods" could easily ban some1 whos not spamming cz they dont like him. -

Its not spotting the spam that's the problem, its the amount. Especially in the case noted, all they have to do is copy and paste the line in numerous cases.
Plus its bothersome because its on top of the other forum violations that go on from trolling to more spam to other cases.
It's very doubtful there will ever be a co-mod position since essentially they would practically have to be a mod in order to be able to do anything.
What some people can do is inform us of such cases, but even then, still alot as it floods our inboxes.
Overall, it was just simpler to remove the ribbon. Maybe when a better forum system comes we can try again. -

okay, first off all the moderators here don't have a hard job. I'm registered to forums with over 1 million users, their moderators have a hard job. In this forum they only close threads but in the forum with over 1 mil users they also delete spam posts and other crap like QQ posts by 12 year old kids and fake news. They are also creating useful instructions and tutorials and move the threads that are posted in the wrong selection.
again, what are the moderators here doing?
I know that they don't get paid for their job here, this is normal. I don't know any moderator that gets paid for his job. This shouldn't stop them from doing a good jobIts always hard to find new good mods that dont abuse their power and some of these "co mods" could easily ban some1 whos not spamming cz they dont like him.
They could make new moderators with less power. Like idk maybe they can only temporary close or remove a thread and a real moderator has to check it before they actually remove them. I don't know about this forum but in the other forum the moderators aren't allowed to ban users, they can only suggest it and the administrator or all the moderators have to vote. -

We're doing exactly what you say. Most of the things don't get noted. Spam posts get deleted, and nobody can see, because only moderators can see, "Blank has been deleted by Blank". QQ posts get deleted, fake news gets deleted. Useful threads are made by moderators, albeit not daily, but every once in a while. What you just stated was basically the daily life of any moderator, it's all done in secrecy, nothing is made public at times.BadMonkey666 wrote: »They could make new moderators with less power. Well, moderators have to take action. If we had a moderator that can only do something temporarily, what would be the point? At this point, I don't see many potential candidates, because everybody's either trolling, or acting immature. Possibly if the community matured up, and could hold a discussion without having every other 3rd post a troll post, I'm sure more people would be considered, but for now, most of those have to be deleted. Threads do get cleaned.
As for the bans, moderators should have that power. GMs cannot be on all day, they have lives. Once GMs leave, the forums are left to moderators.
