Cross Fire error?

Hello everybody! Whenever I try to play Cross Fire I get an error message saying "Can not run Unicode version of ATL80.DLL on Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows Me. Please install ANSI version." *clicks ok* "Cannot find 'ATL80.DLL'. Please re-install this application" I don't know what to do! I've uninstalled Cross Fire multiple times and downloaded it from a different source. I've also deleted all traces of it from my computer before downloading it again. I'm not very knowledgeable on computers so I have no idea as to what's going on! Somebody save me from this horrible situation so I can once again be able to gleefully fill people with lead.

Try to get a new copy of that file: ATL80.DLL and replace it or use your CD.

I suggest at the very minimum that you look in your recycle bin for ATL80.dll

If its not there then try a system restore to the point when you remember crossfire working.

I wouldnt trust downloading a .dll from a website. Also, he wouldnt know where to put it once he has it

There is nothing in my bin. Can I do a system restore and still be able to talk to you or will it cause me to lose connection to this forum?

Try installing this.

That DLL is used in some ASP frameworks and chances are CF relies on it if its messing up without that DLL.

Exactly.

He needs to find that file possibly on another computer and make a copy of it or by using the original CD.

It's easy to find files MS has a search function,

System restores will make your comp unusable for a while.

Download this file: ATL80.dll

Then put that in your folder located at:

C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.4053_x-ww_473666fd

Then let me know if your problem is solved.

Ok so when this downloads I'll reboot, try CF, and then get back to you. It may take a while because CF takes a while to start up.

But remember to not only download it but also to put it in the said location replacing your old one if it exists.
