Microsoft Security Essentials is a free anti-virus. It's not the same as what comes with windows.

I use avast http://www.avast.com/en-us/index
and spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
rarely do I ever have a problem that cannot be corrected
avast also has a boot sector scan which scans pc @ start up , its a great feature

I use MSE.
And spybot.
Never do I have a problem.
