cshell.dll missing error

Hy i get this missing cshell.dll file error everytime i start crossfire
what i get is:

''Missing shell DLL cshell.dll.''

What's wrong? I unstaled and the re-instaled crossfire but i still get the same error. IDK what else can I do. I tryed copying and pasting it into the crossfire folder but it does not help.
If anyone has any ideas what i could do pls write.

What I tryed so far:
a) unistaling and re-instaling crossfire
b) copy and paste the .dll file
c) restored system

And don't say I have to format my disk cuz if that is the only option I rather quit playing CF cuz i can't format it I don't have what I need to get it formated.

Have a nice day.

P.S. I'm runing on XP (service pack 4)

  • This may or may not be related to CF. But sometimes a program accesses and may corrupt or rewrite the data in the CShell.dll file. Causing it to now show up properly if another program needs the file.

Have you tried googling the DLL file and putting it in the appropriate directory?
  • yes i even asked a friend of mine to put his .dll file on a USB key and then i copy and paste into my file ( i checked where i have to copy at my friend) he doesent have that error

Whoops sorry I miss read that you already did that. (been a long morning)

We can't condone the editing of the registry as it can be fatal to your computer. But running CCleaner may help you with the problem.

Also attempt to reinstall CF without uninstalling it. As it may restore the file needed. Also note that these types of errors are very rarely related to regular use of the game. They most often come up when people attempt to use 3rd party software (such as hacks) in conjunction with Cross Fire. Regular use of CF should never need to change the cshell.dll file.
  • i've been getting this error ever since i first downloaded the game months ago. It is not because of the computer, I downloaded crossfire at my friend's house and the exact same thing happened there. NEITHER of us hack. I think it has something to do with cross fire. Luckily this only happens once or twice, then the game starts up, so i just sucked it up
  • IM getting this error aswell mine it: i open crossfire.exe then i press start game and then this message thing pops up saying shelll.dll is missing and then automaticly it opens intenet saying gameguard error but i know how to fix it

    1) Delete crossfire.exe from everywhere
    2) re-install the game but...
    3) when it says this option where there is files you dont install crossfire.exe re-install gameguard.
    4) when your done the crossfire.exe will come with it

THEN IT SHOULD GO IF NOT IM SOZ NOTHING ELSE TO DO BUT I DONE IT AN IT WORKED :D
  • I frequently get the same error (missing shell cshell.dll) after pressing the start game button. when I open crossfire the next time, the "redundant game guard" error msgBox appears. curiously, when I run cf for the 3rd time everything works perfectly.
This obviously has nothing to do with 3rd-party software but rather is a crossfire error.
I am running Windows 7 x64 and YES, I know its not officially supported but since I am not the only gamer experiencing this error I would ask the z8games team to look into it.

    Thank you guys.
  • Restart PC, Or ReDownload it... iuuno

    that doesn't work
  • ok one question in almost every single post i read if there is a problems you MOD's and GM's always say 3rd party (hacks) we dont all hack you know and u say it in almost every post i read? why? is this the easy way out for you? cuz you dont know how to fix it you say 3rd party? is that the case?

K, this is the problem. The first time you open crossfire, the error pops up(I cant help with this error, i get it too), then the 2nd error( redundant game guard error) is caused by having more than one gameguard exe. at a time. What you need to do is open task manager, and end tasks that are related to the previous gameguard. I forgot which ones but I will find them for you later. On the 3rd time, the reason it works is because GameGuard has been given enough time to close, so there is no overlapping. You can either end the GameGuard related tasks, or you can wait a couple minutes for it to close.
