Yes but it does that while i play not whille i stay in place,i think this is a technical problem witch needs to be fixed by crossfire the team.I mean it doesnt do power saving on every computer, just black screen.
I think the monitor or graphics card gets tired of the game and shuts down.I can hear the sound but i cant play.
This is a problem that about 80 people have.

Ok,The Crash happens because the game doesn't come with the monitors resolution,
So if this happens on your computer go to settings end lower the game resolution 1 time,
if it doesn't fix it lower it again.
If this didn't help PM me and i will be happy to help. -
You can change your the resolution at which your monitor displays. It depends on your operating system on how to do this. I'm not using XP Professional, so you'll have to Google how to do it if no one else replies. On 7, you right click the desktop and go to Screen Resolution.

lol you do the same on every os to change resolution
BUT
are you using a graphics card because this doesn't sound like power saving mode this sounds like a graphic card issue, had 1 along time ago playing another game kept having to restart my comp after a few mins of play or sometimes before i could even log in.
basicly means your card is dying i figured it out by using the computers on board graphics which made the game work fine so i bought a new graphics card tried it and the game worked fine didnt go to a black screen -
This only happens to me on Crossfire and Joint Ops my graphics is great i got it a some time ago.http://www.google.com/imgres?q=ati+radeon+9200+se+family&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&biw=1024&bih=653&tbm=isch&tbnid=pwr8F6VG13YoLM:&imgrefurl=http://www.cqout.com/shopfront.asp%3Fl%3DLiquidations%26c%3D7%26s%3D12%26o%3Ddate%26rw%3D100%26g%3D&docid=VomDecg7GEoEgM&w=500&h=334&ei=jQReTpnQEY6PswaT_5DYDw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=158&vpy=287&dur=11166&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=96&ty=108&page=1&tbnh=148&tbnw=222&start=0&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0
