Intel will be always be ahead of AMD, there's no doubt about it. But I don't think he will do anything that will require a powerful CPU. So getting a better GPU is actually wiser IMO.

I am a nvidia fan too, but the 6850 is actually a pretty solid card.

He only should choose AMD when he is planing to get a laptop without a graphics card or if he needs an office pc.

The parts you chose so far are not bad for this budget. But I would choose a better Graphics card (something like the Ati HD 6850 or the Nvidia Geforce 560 ti) and I would try to get sure if there is enough space on your mainboard for all components. The mainboard is a µATX mobo that's why it is smaller than others. You can take it or you choose one for like 5$ more with the ATX standard to get sure. You could even look for cheaper RAM with 1333Mhz. (Idk but there should be something for 40$ or less)

Sum:

Better Graphics card
Check the size of your components and eventually get a bigger mainboard.
Try to get cheaper RAM.

And PLEASE don't listen to Lee_Sin. He is talking bs.

EDIT: For everyone who recommends AMD cpus: Intel offers a DUAL core for 100-120$ that outperforms AMD's high end 6 core in games. Did you know that?

Intel will be always be ahead of AMD, there's no doubt about it.

He's looking for a budget PC. Going the Intel route and getting the 6850 will be over his presumed budget. But if he does get the intel CPU, he will also have to get a more expensive mobo to go with that and leave him little room for a good GPU. The quad core 955 is not a bad CPU at all. Yes it will be slower and more energy hungry than Intel quad cores, but Intels are more expensive. Going the AMD route will enable him to get a more powerful GPU all while maintaining his purpose of a budget computer.

Well, he didn't even state that he is looking for a budget pc yet. Okay his choices are obvious, yeah.

There is still this pretty nice dual Core - i3 2120. The AMD cpus are quads and there are too many games that won't profit from more threads than 2 (Crossfire uses only 1 btw). Furthermore I don't like processors you pay with the electricity bill. When we conclude that his budget on PCs is low then maybe his budget on electricity is the same.

idc about electricity, my parents are paying for that. my parents are also most likely paying for the comp (combined birthday & christmas present (all of my christmas presents...so all i would get is the comp)) so i want the budget to be as low as possible. I actually do not need a cd dvd reader/burner, i will take that out of my old computer. im all set with a moniter. I am going to pirate the OS so i dont need that.

im hoping to stay in a budget of ~$500

i will be gaming, watching movies, downloading a ****load of stuff, and browsing the internet. It is not the main family computer, so should i continue to use this wireless card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124115

the problem is that it all comes together, buying it seperately would make the cost go up. i may be able to put in the PSU of my current bad computer, its some type of dell but i have no idea how much voltage it is. i think like 240 but idk.

So you got guarantee for the whole PC? Then you can stay with the power supply. 240W would be not enough.

What I can tell you so far cause my hardware is pretty similar:

The pc from your last link will get max FPS in Crossfire and will be able to run Crisis 2 @ highest setting when you use directx 9. Directx 11 is a little bit too much for the graphics card but you won't notice the difference.

Is that the highest level of game you're gonna be playing, graphically-wise?

Because you really don't need anything amazing for CoD4, I got 130+ fps maxed on my old 260 XFX.

And which board are you asking about, regarding the sound card?

i have about ~40 fps on low on my best computer. The computer im on cant even run grand chase. ill be playing cod 4, bfbc2, fallout new vegas, l4d2, pretty much everything that isnt good enough for me to buy on console. (before everybody makes fun of my console-loving, i play competitively on consoles but im not good enough to play competitively on computers, so i get the mainstream multiplayer games on console)

Well even the old GTS cards can handle all those games, the only problem regarding New Vegas is it's bugged, has been from day one. You can have the most fantastic setup and you'll still get frame spikes once in a while. It's because they used FaceGen.

But L4D2 requires only a semi-decent CPU, like a Core2 Duo, and a mediocre GPU to reach to 160-200fps marker.

DatCookz is right but there is a problem with your wlan adapter. It doesn't fit on your mainboard (from this link) when there is a graphics card. However the sound card will fit on your mainboard.

You would have to take something like a wlan stick for usb or something similar.
And I do not know why you choose such an expensive sound card. As ghost mode only player I have to tell you that I play with onboard sound and a 40$ headset

yeah im fine in l4d2, but i skipped around in bfbc2. cod4 is just a fail. on my best comp atm i have an i7 processor, 6gbs of RAM, and then a shitty ass $30 graphics card. no idea why the prebuild that my parents got didnt have a better card, its an embarrassment to the rig.

i am also a GM player, i have tritton AX 720's ($130 headset, my main christmas gift last year) but i have personally seen ceejay play on many occasions and he is absolutely unstoppable on GR. i wouldn't mind that.
