I would appreciate a straight awnser.
Right, so due to the COPIOUS number of hackers in game that are making it IMPOSSIBLE to play i've been looking in to the reprocutions of hacking in online games, and I came across this extremely interesting article:
"(Zürich, Switzerland) Authorities from the International Internet Committee (IIC), the body responsible for regulating world-wide Internet use and international policies, have finally passed into affect a new law making it illegal for anyone to use hacks, cheats or bots in any online video game. This new law, playfully referred to during debates as “Policy #1337″, classifies these hacking activities in the same category as hacking software, websites, or distributing viruses. Although video game hacking, as a breach of the legally binding contract presented in a video game’s Terms of Service, has always been classified as a criminal act, this new law escalates the severity to be a felony charge. Also, cooperation from International governments on the issue will make it easier for video game developers to charge foreign citizens with the crime. Individuals who are caught using a video game hack will face fines of 10,000 EUR (approx. $14,000 USD) per instance that the hack was used, as well as up to 10 years of jail time. The revenue collected will partially be shared with the game studios affected by the hacking, and the rest will fund the ongoing investigation.
Jennifer Carter, the PR representative for InfinityGame Studios, comments “this is a great move in favour of video game developers, especially the smaller studios who cannot afford to conduct law suits on their own. Revenue loss due to hacking in the gaming industry has been estimated to exceed $300 million US dollars [220M EUR] annually; something had to be done to protect the future of gaming.”
So, my question is WHY isn't Z8 and their owners/stockholders ecc taking legal action against the websites that distribute (Both freely and in most cases asking money) for hacks. I'm not flaming, i've been playing crossfire for almost 2 years and hackers have always been an issue, but 90% of the people I introduced this game to have subsequently quit due to the fact that it's become basically impossible to enjoy. And I can imagine that Z8 is loosing an awful lot of money because of people quitting/not wanting to spend money on a hack infested game.
I know i'll probably get flamed for this, but I am really quite curious to know why no apparent legal action has been taken.

1: court cases take years
2: 100 000 hacker court cases take centuries
3: the cost of such legal action cost far more then just leaving them there
4: i doubt any courts will put someone in jail for 10 years over a game
5: im not sure about the juristiction z8 would have in other countries -

Me too..And i'm not implying Z8 should sew every 12 year old using hacks, but at least the distributers/the people with no real lives that make them. -

well the players doing the hacking can face "up too" a $14,000 fine.
if the courts can make money they could open a new court system for cyber crimes. the revenue from hakers and hak program companies could be charged.
the haker himself could face a fine of like $500 or somthing reasonable. and the haking company or person that creates a hak or bot should be fined to the full extent of the law ($14,000) but no jail time should ever be needed, unless you get repeat offenders. -

1) This is a great example of people will believe anything they read. If you are passionate about any issue. Please read some facts and act with the brain instead of the heart. We understand that you (and others) are very passionate towards your hate for hackers. We too hate them with as much as you, and are doing everything in our powers to stop them.
But when bringing a subject like this to light, you've quoted something that is totally inaccurate. If you expect a straight answer, ask a straight question.
2) Legal Action has been taken in some instances. The laws you have quoted were created by an organization, not a governing body. The legal actions we have taken are not based on this quote. However, we don't need to announce any of our legal proceedings. Legal issues are always internal, just because Law and Order makes things public doesn't mean this is always reality.
3) Anonymity amongst the hacking group. While some legal action has taken place, the hackers themselves just move on. Cross Fire is a game with great mechanics and gameplay and replayability. But it is not a brand new engine with the latest coding applied to it. This is a fact, being able to "hack" a game like Cross Fire will always be easier than to be able to "hack" a more modern counterpart. This is to say that those modern games don't have hacks available to them, but a company like Sony or Microsoft has a much larger budget than we do.
Not to mention that if we managed to get one shut down one another would likely take it's place.
Think of it like this. Napster was sued in what could be considered precedent for illegal music sharing. And since then individual users and distributors of music have been sued and brought to justice. But has that stopped you from downloading free music?
4) It's expensive and more logistically complicated than the public seems to think. (a line in previous point). We are not a company that employs hundreds of thousands of people. We are growing, and doing well and Cross Fire is a successful f2p FPS. But this does not make us Blizzard Entertainment.
5) Locations, laws and licenses. The quote you have used (even it being fake) was located in Switzerland. We are not located there, have no jurisdiction there, and our game license is not for that area. So with regards to Cross Fire, quoting random internet laws passed by activists and small governments may not apply to our game. Add on the pointed out fact that this really isn't passing a law with any real government anyways.
Technically we have made a law that says you can't hack. And we enforce this law by issuing bans and removing accounts and players from the game. This is about as much as the IIC has done. -
To build on what Saidin just said...
You are talking about taking legal action against the hackers, but the problem you are missing is the sheer number of people able to hack or create hacks FOR Crossfire.
Taking legal action against them would cost quite a bit, and then add that to the number of hackers.
Z8games would go out of business quite quickly.
As it stands right now the team of developers working on Crossfire has done more than you can imagine stopping hackers. Plenty of hacks have disconnect errors now, some don't work... there are a few still hanging around but the anti-cheat picks those up pretty well.
You sit back and complain about what you see in game but forget about what is out of game. There may be 10 hackers in a room using one hack. But they are using only one hack because the other 20 are patched. -
I_Fernando wrote: »Yeah, would it be just possible to improve the support? I reported hackers half a year ago, they`re not even banned. So what motivation have guys like me to keep reporting hackers?
The idea that you are at least trying, you are putting forward an effort to make the game better. The support team does what they can, but between fake hack reports, the sheer number of hack reports, and dealing with the other sides of the game such as technical and billing support they can only do so much.
Hackers get banned, maybe not all of them. But bans are handed down and that is enough to warrant you continuing to try. -

You`re right. But don`t say we just sit back . I mean, if I would earn money for a virtual game, i would try to keep it clean (from hackers) too. Please don``t act like Z8 is the poor, working hard company. They do it for themselves as for us ! -

None of the guys i reported were banned. -
I don't know what to say. I don't know how the support team works, I can't pretend to.
However I have seen plenty of accounts get banned.
Yes, they do try to keep the game clean. They aren't some poor company.
However you don't seem to understand HOW many people able to formulate cheats there are. They do their best and they do a good job, but there will always be cheaters. It is inevitable. -
The nature of the problem may be that they didn't appear to cheat to the staff. There are a few cheats that are very hard to pick up on a replay if the person using them knows what they are doing. And there are times when I've been sure someone was cheating, but when I look at the replay (which is how the server saw the game) I see that certain kills were legitimate and I just didn't see it at the right angle.I_Fernando wrote: »None of the guys i reported were banned. -

I understand it. Since a long time...
But it`s human to think about it every day again while getting killed by Hackers.
The only thing i don`t understand is the guys who don`t kick hackers. I don`t wanna say Z8 is bad or something like this, but i can`t getting agressive on those f12-idiots. They have no own forum ;D -

Could be sometimes... But in my case it was Speedhack. I think I can differnce from whats hack wheter what`s not, I`m not the kind of guy calling after every headshot "hacker". But I trust my eyes. -
The kick system only needs a few changes.
4 f11s and 3 f12s will kick you.
But 9 f11s and 6 f12s won't kick.
There have been plenty of suggestions about the kick system, you can check the forums for those.
I personally have never really had an issue with hackers not being kicked. It does happen occasionally, but not so much that it bothers me. -

Quoted for truth. Many players weren't around back when Subagames was the portal, The hacks back then were much more varied. Right now we get 1 or 2 hacks that are in mass.
Back then there was dozens of hacks in use.
TDM was filled with invisible, invincible, 1 hit kill, aim-bot hacks (yes all at once in one hack) that could only be killed with grenades.
GM had ghost with AWMs shooting faster then the Thompson and infinite ammo.
SND had Wall/aim-bots that wiped your whole team before you could move.
And all of these were common back then.
Z8 is doing a much better job at stopping the hacks, the problem is just how many people flood to a new hack when it comes out.
I played back then and quit for awhile. came back a few years later because I missed ghost mode (it was fun and reminded me of when I played Perfect Dark N64 against darksims with cloaking devices) -
It only bothers me when my team puts up a cheater for vote three or four times and the other team doesn't vote. Then, when we don't kick anymore because it is useless, they start whining about how we keep a cheater on our side to win. :mad:I personally have never really had an issue with hackers not being kicked. Mhm. We still have that on occasion... as far as I know speed hack is completely gone. Same with the walk through walls and shoot through walls cheats. They will disconnect you from the server and I believe the autoban detects them now.
Either way this is precisely correct.
