Crossfire won't start

Well, I would have provided screenshots, but no one responded to my other thread, so i'll try to explain with words. I go on my computor, everything was fine today, i go on Crossfire and play, then log of and go on forums, I attempt to go back on Crossfire( everything still working fine, internet, computor, etc.)After the little game guard window goes away Crossfire usually starts up, but it didn't. I wait a bit, then crossfire window pops up(my computor says it's not responding). It freezes. I wait a bit, nothing happens, I decide trying to go on the internet, but it says page will not display. I go to shut down the computor, but It won't... Crossfire page froze there, internet not working, computor won't shut down, what else do i do? Leave my computor on forever? I had to shut the computor down by turning the power bar off(I don't like doing that because you might lose information and what not). I start the computor back up, everything is working fine, I can go on the internet, go on skype, or run other programs, so I decide to try Crossfire again, NOPE! Same thing happens... And i shut computor don't by the power bar, in total it happened three times, i have no idea why it all of a sudden decides to do this, i was already on Crossfire that day! Once i try to start up Crossfire it makes my computor go wacko! (stuff not responding, unable to run programs, unable to use the internet or anything that needs the internet to run like Skype..) Please help, hopefully SOMEONE responds to this thread! Now my fingers are tired from typing..

It happened to me too!

I have vista, and Crossfire usually runs normally for me. I click on it and it goes to not re spawning then i wait like 10 seconds, and the crossfire log in menu pops up. But now i click it and it does nothing, and soon a game guard pop up pops up with no words- just blank

Yup, also I have vista too, i hope we both get this straightened out, also i might repost if no one respond, so keep an eye out for another post.

ialso have vista but it takes about 5-8 minutes to start up any tips to make it faster?

I just got the same issue. Last night, im playing nothing wrong with the game. Today i try to play, the game loads up, and i click play crossfire. Then this is where all the fun happens. IT doesnt load, and it starts to freeze all other programs and functions of Windows vista. I try to click on restart or shut down, even try to go to Task manager, No. Just the empty box comes up. So i have to manually hold in the power button to restart my cpu. I have bought SP and ZP, and i am apart of a large crossfire community in where im respected. I would like help on this problem.

Alright, I found out a quick fix for my problem. What im running is OS Vista, Virus protection is Avast antivirus, etc etc. What i did was i right clicked on avast and clicked on stop On access protection. Then i tried to start the game, and it loaded.

Well, for my solution, I just rebooted my computor. If you ever have any problem with Crossfire the first thing you should do is reboot. But, maybe you just have to wait a while? Well good luck everyone.

Can't believe I'm not the only one =O

Wow, for once I'm not the only one. Same thing happens to me - I click on Cross Fire, menu with patch notes and start game option comes up, I click on it, everything's fine until nProtect GameGuard finishes loading. Nothing happens, and my computer is pretty much screwed until I restart (usually I have to just "kill it", i. e. hold down the power button as opposed to restarting the normal way). I hope since so many people are getting this Z8Games will do something.

I have the same sort of problem, but i see the gameguard window pop up, and after that crossfire is just a black screen, i can go into the task manager and end crossfire, but it never gets to the log on screen. it works just fin on my other computer that is much less powerful than my laptop. i have 3gb of ram with a 2.17 ghz cpu, my graphics card is not an issue.
help would be appreciated

Solution for the "not responding black screen" = Download "game booster", google that and download it. As for just the black screen issue, can you hear sound? Is it just black, no sound?

I had this issue with Aion and I had to deal with this until I figured out the issue.

Never had an issue with Crossfire--till like yesterday (like all of you).

Do you know what it is? It's GAMEGUARD. Its the most worthless anti-hack program ever and it really confuses me why so many companies decide to use this steaming pile of sh**. Seriously, wtf? I open the game, it freezes my whole f***ing computer. That shouldn't happen. It's just a f***ing game.

Yesterday Gameguard must have updated and now it's being an even MORE intrusive pile of sh**. If you want the solution to the freezing, turn off your antivirus (for many it's Avast and Kapersky that causes this). We SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TURN IT OFF AND LEAVE SECURITY VULNERABILITIES.

But apparently we do, for a mere game. Oh, right--And I can't alt tab with this new update either. Go figure.

My crossfire won't start it brings up a blank error box then web page opens up talking about errors and how to fix them i tried them and it still doesn't work. Also all my friends around the same time were having problems staring CF too, if it helps me and my clan kept on getting Disconnected when we tried to connect to the clan server and the error popped up after trying to start crossfire again after being disconnected from clan server

I have the same problem...when i try to start CF the FAQ appear from gameguard . I tried to fix the problems but still the same..won't start . So if anyone found a solution , please post.thanks

windows vista

I have Windows Vista and I cant use the crossfire.exe I have to use the patcher_.exe which gets annoying and when It starts up a crossfire windows pops up and says "not responding" it takes a while. Today its like 7pm and I want to play crossfire when I start it makes weird noise glitches like its lagging. On Windows XP it works better then Vista In my opinion.

100% agree with you on this one.
On Vista the game glitches as mad. The loading times are also longer than on XP with the same configuration, software on it.

The solution to the vast majority of the issues listed here may be like the one below:

Go to your CF main directory and delet HGWC and XTrap folders then run the game and let it download them by itself again.
