same thing happened too me im waiting for a solution too this because i want to play..

sorry to say but this happon to my friend and he couldnt play till next patch

The error means that one of crossfire's files has been modified, and refuses to start as a method of hack prevention.

Naturally, the file becomes modified from a patch, or otherwise.

When this happens to me I...

1. Simply restart the computer and try loading up the game again ( for some reason this actually works).
2. If #1 doesn't work for you, completely remove the game with CCleaner, remove it from the registry, and remove its directory folder (C:\programfiles\z8games). And remove its folder in the "MyDocuments" area.

Get another setup, re-install the game, and try it again. ( make sure your anti-virus/firewall is off this entire time).
