Usually means it's not starting up properly, or your settings are off.

A way to fix the display, is to change your resolution as I had this problem before;

Right-click an open space in your desktop, and a list should pop up >> Screen Resolution >> Resolution. (Based on Windows 7, as I have the exact same type of computer, and you should have the available options)

Pick the resolution you are comfortable with, and then re try. If the problem still occurs, try closing programs in the back round, and yet again if it still happens try to re download the game itself from - http://crossfire.z8games.com/downloads2.aspx
