I don't think your grades matter as long as you have your diploma/G.E.D, you're just required to pass the physical test and major what you plan on taking.RawrJafrikan wrote: »How well are your grades?
You may want to consider Navy.
I heard the navy requires crazy amount of training, you even have to drown yourself as part of the training. -

I'm asking because they have a nuclear chem program.
I might join myself. -

underpaid? not even.. during the time you serve, you have food/shelter and all the other basic necessities at your service.. while your getting paid... imagine having all that saved up.it's tough stuff, but they're severely underpaid. the job is very rewarding I've heard, that is, when you do something to help the society.
I'm not sure how the salary is, but it's definitely not low.. you even get a 40g sign on bonus and after your done serving they give you a large percentage off if you plan on buying a house, full coverage medicare and much other benefits. -
you can take college classes while in the marines.i planned on goin to the marine aswell but i think i heard my friend saying go to college first then apply to the marines cuz then ur goin to be a PFC and not a Pvt
but some fields require majoring, so depending on what you're going to do going to college beforehand would help. -
Lets see, I did 3 years of JROTC during highschool, and loved every second of it. Had a 2.0 GPA during the whole time. Three years later after graduating I decide to go into the Marines well see what I needed to do. Needless to say all you need is to take the ASVAB score I do believe at 57 or Higher aint that hard scored a 84 and most of it I havent seen in ages. They'll ask you basically our views on joining, why your joining. Fill out some paperwork. Go to MEPS for your physical and to be sworn in. Then off to boot camp for 13 weeks of fun!! Then you'll be a Marine.
More or less.(Didn't join cause of family issues.) -

Its pretty underpayed bro...
Personally I'm thinking about going to some UC or maybe even a private.
Thank God my parents have money. -
didn't know it was that low, but i ****ed up in high school, so I don't have much of a choice now.. and after serving for 4 years I'll hopefully have better discipline and I'm set with a house and a nice car by the time I'm 22, and I heard your children have alot of benefits in it too, like getting their college tuition paid. The pay is still low nonetheless. As a recruit, you're only getting paid $16k a year. Maybe after 40 years when you work your way up to gunnery sergeant or something of a commanding rank, you're getting paid on average 70k a year.

I still wouldn't let this tamper with your ambition. But honestly, for the hours that you work, and for that type of work that you do (IE. risking your life) it really turns out to be under paying. But hey, you'll be too busy working anyway to do anything related with money.
I know 24 year olds that are making 100k+ working at BIG LAW and in banking on Wall Street. They're already making over 100k a year in the early 20's (while a marine at that age isn't even making 30k) not to mention getting insane bonuses. I'm only comparing this to give you a sense of how low paying being a marine is. -
Meh.
Serve a couple of years
Spend saved salary on higher education
Get in to the private security business (military experience+higher education=win)
????
profit
You dont even need to spend your saved salary on higher edu. I met a former marine in college, guy was telling me that the marines paid 100% of his education and even gave him extra money. -

to an extent of course. You dont even need to spend your saved salary on higher edu. I met a former marine in college, guy was telling me that the marines paid 100% of his education and even gave him extra money.
they wouldn't make much money if they had to pay two years tuition to harvard or whichever good university you people have, for every random joe that enlists. -

I wish the best of luck to you. I honestly think it's a huge sacrifice but very benfitial in your future. If school is working out for you, I believe your able to join regardless if you pass a test. I was thinking about doing National Guard but I'm not much of a soldier since I'm a lazy and chunky Mexican hehe
Don't know to much but just wanted to wish you the best of luck and update us with your decision on the branch you choose
