Does it really make that much of a difference?

Hate to burst your bubble but it still creates temp replays as per normal.
I don't know if this is a bug or not, but the fact remains that those who have it disabled can still snag the replays.
I have no idea if the option does improve performance or not though. -

Actually tested it on different types of pc's and the pc's FPS was the same on the pc's
So ya the temp replay's are probably the problem the forget to take take that out! -

I don't really understand what your referring to exactly.
Define 'last replay'?
Because replay temp files always get overwritten if there's a new game being played. That's always been the case from day one. The temp is there if you want to save the game you just played, but missed it.
Exiting, starting a new game or deleting it will obviously remove/overwrite the temp file. -

wasnt there always a permanent file called last replay?
for example i play a game, then exit CF
there is still a last replay data in my crossfire/Replay folder
now i turned it off, do the same and there is no last replay file -
