Not entirely sure, it's a little harder to earn GP, than exp, so I don't think it's ever been needed.

For a map that was never intended to be actually played upon, its very likely that its xp rate was never configured properly for the various modes within, hence the crazy amount it produces in such little time.

Doesn't help that the people are right beside each other too.
