It's pronounced "STY-er", not "STAY-er", right? I was watching NUMB3RS and that's how they pronounced it.

I prefer the 'stay-er' simply because thats the way it looks to me, sounds cooler and much easier to say than trying to note its 'sti-er'

yes, like that. the thing is, english natives usually can´t pronounce that.

just put a shhh in front of tyer and you are pronouncing both, the city in austria and the gun 100% correct.

Obviously, because Steyr is a bit long to say. Also, in German, 'ey' is pronounced 'eye' so yeah. :-)
Good job helping people pronounce it though.
When I first saw one, I called it Stayer. :L
But I learned after it was Styer.
