A question about "Trying"
What do YOU think it is? Is shift walking trying? Is sitting up and glaring at the screen trying? Is displaying some sort of particular skill, "trying"?
I think that trying is maybe reacting faster, and caring a little more about your match. Because if you didn't care, I think that would be considered not trying. If you started caring, you would definitely focus more on the game, thus, reacting faster and actually putting some gamesense in. But I think most people, like me, are always "trying" since I pay attention to my game. I have my good days and bad.
I would suggest not even mentioning the word "trying", unless you're really the type that actually can "try" and **** people. It just makes you look bad when you say "THAT'S IT! I'M GONNA TRY!!" and you get Pzed.
So.. what do you think when you're for example 1v1ing someone, and the flow of the game is with you, and someone tells you that they're gonna "try"? I usually don't reply or just say "Ok" if it's my friend.
PS: I just made a pointless thread, I know. I'm bad at expressing my thoughts into words. Or something like that.

Trying in terms of playing CF comes down to the amount of effort you put into the game. The better you are, the more things become second nature and less effort is put into playing well. Trying for me now consists of using a decent gun instead of one I'm trying to break and baiting team mates instead of rushing. (I don't play competitively so using strats is beyond my interest.)
Being a 'Try-Hard' means putting in more effort to achieve nothing. In pubs this is usually the case when the lone soldier is attempting in vain to clutch by walking constantly.
